The Chargers are really botching this and will always be the little brother to the Rams like the Jets are to the Giants.
Whoever wins will be the big brother. Jets haven't won anything since Namath so it stands to reason they'd take a back seat to the Giants who've won...what, 4 SB's since the '80's?

I don't think the NFL minds having two teams in LA but I don't think they wanted to lose SD as a city. I don't think they'll let it sit vacant for long.

Totally. The Rams have to play better though.
If / when we start our ascent to the top of the standings (at least more frequently) there is no way the Chargers will compete in our market. If they start winning first ,, well that's a bit of a different story.

Not great for the Rams, but I will personally find it awesome if the Raiders come here to San Diego. That would just be too funny.

3 teams withing 75 miles might be stretching the leagues declining attendance numbers a bit thin.
So does SD become the new leverage city if this actually happens?

Could be.

San Diego had a decent plan, Spanos fucked it up - if you saw the statement that the San Diego Mayor made, it's true. It is ripe for another team, and the fans are pissed off at the Chargers right now for the most part.

The Giants were a train wreck in the late 70's early 80's with Joe Pisarcik miracle in the Meadowlands nonsense and the Jets were having success with the Richard Todd era and the NY Sack exchange and STILL they were the red-headed step child compared to the Giants

Now the Chargers are going to play in front of 20k for 2 years while their QB winds out his career. By the time Englewood opens, the Chargers will be a mess. Sure I am planning on the Rams having success in the next 2 seasons, but it doesn't need to be SB wins. A real offense will do the trick as the D will be just fine. (Unlike San Diego)

I think the NFL has had plans in the intermediate future (5-10 years) to expand. I think if the Raider do move as well that the loss of these two cities will speed the expansion up. I think it will still be in the immediate future but the pendulum will swing closer to the 5 year side vs the 10 year mark.

I don't think so unless San Diego finds $500, 600 or 700 million of it's own lying around to throw at a team. That seems to be the current extortion price.

If they announced it was for leverage purposes and they were not leaving, they (the fans) would take them back. Not all of them, but the end of the stadium madness would be resolved so trust could be rebuilt. The love couldn't be gone this soon.
If they leave though, the love will turn into jilted hate and that will be all she wrote.

I think you are right on that.
