(1) Limited cap space…

(2) Limited draft capital…

(3) Loss of KEY free agents (43-Johnson… 54-Floyd… 81-Everett… 11-Reynolds…)

(4) And over abundance of teams looking to / willing to move starting QB’s (Garapollo… Stafford… Fitzpatrick… Darnold…) 16-Goff’s cap number is the biggest on the team / one of the biggest in the market…

(5) Too many teams already over the Cap…

(6)Therefore, 16-Goff is untradeable…

And by the way… I do not consider 16-Goff’s contract a 'bad' contract… There is a big bump up in 2021 and it stays around that figure for the next 2 years… The key being that the team can walk away with a Dead Cap number of only $8.6 million AFTER the 2022 season…

As we advance through the contract number stays at about +$31.5 millon(+/-)… Which - over time - would put him in line
If not for COVID and the fact that the 2021 Cap number goes down or at least stays the apse we would be saying it is comparable or even lesser than other similar contracts…

And then again there re this who argue his performance is not worth ANY number…

Note: I am of the opinion that Rams management has done EVERYTHING in their power establish a foothold in the southern California market… From uniform-hype to community outreach to overpaying / handing out outrageous contracts to select players / fan favorites… Some have worked (99-Donald… 17-Woods…) Some have not (30-Gurley… 12-Cooks…)

The big problem the Rams now have is that the LA Chargers have suddenly become an up and coming team… The flavor of the day in La La Land… The likely rookie of the year in Herbert… And a hot, new coach - another young 'genius’ - in Staley…

The Rams desperately want to be the Lakers… And NOT the Clippers…

And so therefore… I believe this would be their best course of actions…

DEFENSE:

Secondary: 43-Johnson walks… Otherwise: No change…

LB’s: 54-Floyd walks… Resign 41-Howard… Resign 49-Rivers… Pray 52-Lewis is healthy…

D-Line: Resign 97-Fox… Pray 96-Hoecht develops…

OFFENSE:

QB’s: No change… (Though they will make it appear that 9-Wolford will get a legitimate shot at the staring job… And maybe Fitzpatrick is a fit here for the veteran minimum… Hmmm…?)

RB’s: No change…

WR’s: 11-Reynolds walks… {Option 1: sign DeSean Jackson-1 year / Option 2: signed Antonio Brown - 1 year…) Otherwise: No change or DRAFT selection…

TE’s: 81-Everett walks… Pray 88-Hopkins can play… Otherwise: No change…

O-line:

Right Tackle: Trade: 79-Havenstein… Replaced by: 73-Edwards OR 71-Evans OR 70-Noteboom…

Resign: 66-Blythe (for backup money ONLY…) He backs up the Center and both Guard positions…

Right Guard: No change: 63-Corbett…

Left Tackle: No change: 77-Whitworth… 70-Noteboom ('Break glass in case of emergency…')

Center and Left Guard: I am always a 'highest player on the board - all things being equal' kind of guy when it comes to the draft… At #57 I am assuming there is some good talent at Center / Guard… (Or maybe an elite LB…)

I cannot think an elite LT would still be there, but maybe a RT…

We rebuild our line for the future… Take our lumps early in the season… Get better as the season wears on… And wind up with the #6 wild card on the last day… again…

In the 2022 draft… WITH AN ACTUAL 1ST ROUND PICK… Les Snead ALMOST oversleeps… But wakes up in time to draft the 3rd or 4th best QB on the board or a speed merchant wide receiver…

I like the Fitzpatrick mention @Blue Boy. Started with us too. He's been good enough at times over his career to push 16-Goff , a little.
Overall I can see your off-season plan being a good possibility. Of course I'd like to see more change on the Oline.
Also AB or DJ could really help out the deep game.

I get that your Lakers Clippers description is who the top dog in town is. I already equate the Rams with the Lakers as both are long tenured LA teams. The 'C' teams from San Diego both riding on the backs of the other LA owners like Cook, Buss and now ESK are 2nd fiddle or worse.
But now the Clippers are doing everything they can to try and pry the market share from the 24 time Pacific division champion, 19 time conference champion and 17 time NBA champion Lakers . Their 0 conference titles are being quashed as Ballmer is trying to get over with his new dynamic duo. So like the Chargers with their new QB and $30M in cap space, they might threaten some market share. SD does have 16 UFA's to deal with but that rookie QB contract is going to help the get relevant fast considering how good that kid is.

I feel like the Rams must sign Floyd, he should still improve and really gives us a pass rush on the edge. I certainly dont think we cant count on Lewis and he has shown zero ability to stay on the field. I think Obo showed up later in the season and could be someone we could get more out of next season if he can stay healthy.

I really dont want to start over at Edge, we must take advantage of AD as long we have him, got to keep or give him help to make him even more successful along with the Rams defense.

I agree with what you are saying… I too love 54-Floyd's overall game… Best combination of Rams edge defender and pass rusher I can recall in forever… I just think he is going to cost too much…

And he is another guy who benefits greatly form the 'Donald double-team' effect… 'Doubt he will be as effective elsewhere… (Just like Fowler in Atlanta, these guys should be giving 99-Donald at least 20% of whatever they are paid at their next stop…)

As for 52-Lewis… It was why I wrote 'pray that {he} is healthy…'

It’s certainly the most affordable at the moment. The question is does McVay think Goff can be good enough to win the SB.

The big question is just how much can the Rams maintain this roster? Good teams lose players and coaches every year so it's probably just par for the course. But we probably won't be able to lean on the defense next year and it isn't like they have simply ignored the offense up until now. With the salary cap situation as it is, do the Rams get a little worse, stay the same or get better?

I think if they just maintain the level we've got, it will be fortunate. As strapped as they are, I don't see how they're going to improve G, C, WR, LB, S, more? That's just too big of an ask. So, Goff is going to have to improve with essentially the overall same level of team we've had in '19 & '20.

So, will it be "the light comes on" or "doing the same thing and expecting different results"?

I hope Snead/McVay have another rabbit up their sleeves because all of these bad contracts for guys they quickly got rid of has to catch up at some point. Not to mention Donald, Ramsey, etc. having to be taken care of.
