I would have gone for it as well. Troy and Joe suggested it may have been difficult even at the 1/2 yard line to be smooth enough to make it with all the crowd noise. Regarding McVay's coaching decisions- I'm still curious why TG was used so very little? Punishment for those 1st 2 pass drops?

I know the ballsy call would have been to go for it (like vs Dallas). And I know the way some fans look at it is "the worst that could happen is we fail and the Saints have the ball on their 1 foot line". I think the possibilities were make it and go up 4 or miss it and say to the Saints, "think you can run the last 4 minutes off the clock?" because that's what they would have had to do being up 3. Gain a first down on a run, a pass, a penalty? Gain another one or would they have even needed 2? Gain 1 and punt to the Rams 20 with 30 seconds left?

It's not really about balls or guaranteed victory, the math says going for it in that situation gives you the best chance to win.

But we won so it's hard to go too far down this road...

Yeah, thats all true.

The only thing going against all that is the Saints know exactly what you're doing and they have the advantage on the snap with all the noise. So I think that reduces the math, I just don't know how much.

I am on the camp that says go for it. But on the other hand if they did score and went up by four the Saints would be in four down situations from there on out. Giving the Saints four downs is a huge advantage considering pass interference calls are a big problem...... or not. :twisted2:

Exactly! I think tying it though tough to do, but was the prudent decision. IMO the Saints were reeling a bit particularly on offense, our defense was doing the job. Rather tie the game and take my chances from there.

But I get the other school of thought, just glad we won.

Brees in that dome, 2 minute drill with all TO's available? Rams D has been getting gashed all year and if they let the Saints get 2 1st downs, game over. I think they had to kick the FG to tie it up.

Had they gone for it and scored, "The Call" wouldn't have the legs it does today. Almost wish they had.

Was the wrong call based on field position, time in game and any win probability metric you utilize. If Payton didn't arrogantly throw the ball inside 2 minutes, it probably costs the Rams the game.

Out of character. Rams defense was playing well too, having them start at the 1 yard line would have been fine.

Got away with it, that simple.

I was glad he tied it up. If they get no points there it's game over.
