I don't envy those folks one bit, and have great empathy for what they're going to go through.

Well said. I can totally appreciate your point of view. I've only visited STL a few times, but I've always found the people there to be wonderful. I feel bad for those that I've met who love the Rams and were gracious to me, but not so much for others who have made disparaging remarks about Rams fans who rooted for the LA team, like Karraker, who questioned if any of us were still alive. Screw him and his crying routine.

McKernan: Viewing The Inglewood And Carson Sites

Tim McKernan posted on October 28, 2015 04:00

Viewing The Inglewood And Carson Sites

SAN DIEGO – Tonight, the fans of San Diego will get a chance to vent like the fans of St. Louis did last night and the fans of the Raiders will tomorrow night in Oakland.

We will be on hand in San Diego as we just made the drive from Los Angeles to San Diego after a day viewing both the Inglewood and Carson stadium sites.

While Carson not only provided us access to Mayor Al Robles for an interview---which you can view in its entirety by clicking HERE---they also took us on a tour of the proposed stadium site---which you can view by clicking HERE.

Mayor Robles spent about an hour with us discussing a number of issues…including the one that is attached to Carson as a criticism more than anything else: that the site is sitting on a landfill. We discuss that quite a bit. View the interview to hear his response to the question and the follow-ups to the question.

Unfortunately, as noted in yesterday’s column, Inglewood Mayor James Butts cancelled his scheduled interview, and his staff did not respond to requests to reschedule next week after telling me that he was busy the rest of this week. That also precluded us from getting a guided tour of the Inglewood site.

Despite that, we were able to get video of the site at Hollywood Park. You can see it for itself by clicking HERE. We also met up with Bring Back The Los Angeles Rams’ Director Tom Bateman and had a conversation with him about the Rams, the Inglewood site, and St. Louis. You can watch the video by clicking HERE.

You can see still photos of all of the images from both Carson and Hollywood by clicking HERE.

Both sites have construction going on.

Both sites have workers on site.

And both sites have people associated with the projects who are confident it will be their site that winds up winning out.

All of that was anticipated.

The goal was to see with my own eyes and hear with my own ears the sights and sounds of Inglewood and Carson and those associated with the project.

So, what did I think?

Well, it would’ve been ideal to have interviewed Mayor Butts, because then I could compare apples to apples on the manner with which he and his staff conducted themselves vs. how Mayor Robles and his staff conducted themselves.

All I can operate off of is what I saw and heard. So, with that said, the people at Carson couldn’t have been more open and accommodating.

Inglewood obviously wasn’t.

My views aren’t fueled by who was “nice” and who wasn’t. Can’t operate that way.

But, one city wanted to show off their project and answer questions…and one didn’t.

The question is: why is that?

I can tell you that the people at Carson are waiting just like people in St. Louis.

A lot of this trip is about attempting to make reads on the situation by seeing and hearing first-hand opinions and information.

I leave Carson quite confident that they were being sincere when they said they don’t know what’s going to happen, but that they are ready to build the stadium if and when the NFL gives them the green light.

Carson’s big selling point is its location. Mayor Robles said the reason Carson is the better project is simple: “Location, location, location.”

Carson’s site is accessible to two main freeways, the 405 and 110. Currently, Inglewood is more difficult to get to…and it would be more difficult to get out of.

However, with that said, there’s no way you can view the Inglewood site and not see it as a prime location for a stadium. It’s a monster site.

It is quite noticeable that the stadium site in Inglewood is in the flight patterns of planes landing at LAX. It’s so noticeable that a number of people watching our interview with Bring Back The Los Angeles Rams’ Director Tom Bateman on Periscope commented on it throughout. The planes are landing and are quite low as they’re approaching the airport. They fly right over the stadium site every couple of minutes.

The sad/amusing thing about this whole situation is that you have this global city of close to 4 million people…and this entire Southern Californian region of 22 million people…and they’re on hold.

They’re waiting.

Some want to see Carson win. Some want to see Inglewood win. Some don’t really care.

But, perhaps I’m wrong, I think there’s a good chance that what these 22 million people get in California could be impacted by what 28 aldermen in St. Louis decide over the next month.

In talking to people in the Los Angeles Area over the last two days, it’s universally acknowledged that St. Louis has done more than San Diego and Oakland. You heard Eric Grubman acknowledge that last night at the Town Hall Meeting in St. Louis.

There’s a sense among some here that---even though it may not feel this way in St. Louis---it’s the 21st market in the country that could actually impact what happens in the 2nd market, because if St. Louis does what the Task Force has set out to do, the NFL cannot allow the Rams to move.

Now, that doesn’t mean Stan Kroenke is tied to the Rams forever. But, if he isn’t allowed to move, you could see a major domino effect…and those dominos would fall from St. Louis all the way to the Pacific Ocean.

Today’s Itinerary

Just like yesterday, we’ll Periscope when we can…and we’ll record on video all of our interviews and post them on insideSTL.com.

Today, I’m scheduled to meet with San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and Chargers’ Special Counsel Mark Fabiani.

We’ll also get to the Chargers’ Town Hall and interview fans outside the auditorium to get their perspective on San Diego and the Chargers…but also the relocation process, St. Louis, Inglewood, and Carson.

I’m intrigued to see what the town halls in San Diego and Oakland will be like. I’m sure there will be anger…but in San Diego and Oakland, is it as intense and unified against one person as it is in St. Louis?

We shall see…and we’ll be here in San Diego to cover it for you today and in Oakland to cover it for you tomorrow.

If you have any questions, comments, or whatever, email me at [email protected].

What? Construction at both sites? Workers at both sites? Bullshit. There is NOTHING going on at the Con site. I walked down to the front gate ten minutes ago after reading this ( I'm standing there now, Eddie, the gate guard is standing here with me), and I am looking directly into the site. there are no workers, and no construction going on. McKernan, you're a liar. Did you even drive by here?

That's funny coming from Randy Karraker. He's seven years older than me (he looks about 15 years older). I and most people here have been Ram fans long before he started following the team and we'll remain Ram fans long after he stops following the team in 2016.

two things:

1. as i recall (some time ago) when going to watch the ponies or the lakers local law enforcement directed traffic in and out. some streets went one way going in and one way going out and it did not take long to get to the freeway.
2. there might be planes flying near the site now but trust me the faa has flight restrictions for sporting events where attendance is excess of 30k planes go around the venue, way around.

Elvis. First off, Inglewood is about the same but further along than in was in August. Still no signs of the stadium excavation yet, from the angles he provided.
Carson, In his photo essay, notice how he started it with the photo of the 18 wheeler (trailer only) with a silk screened sign stuck on one side? It's the only reference to a stadium around there. Been there. Seldom traveled road. Oh and he put the same photo zoomed at the middle and again as the last shot. Dude is spinning No wonder the folks in StL are so confused..

I watched the video too and the driver of that dirty dashboard, failing upholstery SUV ( or is he some kind of landfill expert?), implied that the large mounds of dirt are part of the stadium project. Those mounds have been there (most likely by displacement there or elswhere) and are part of future grading / infill where other soils were needed to be removed for some reason. Bubba can perhaps give us more detail on how long the Carson mounds have been there.

thx Elvis. I kept clicking on "here" and got nothing. the Periscope site doesn't work. I did get to see the photos. They are misleading. The truck trailer is parked out side the fence along Del Amo and Main St, The big piles of sand and rock are not even on the old land fill property, and have been there for over ten years. its on the Northwest corner OUTSIDE the fenced landfill. It has a rock crusher they use it for filling in potholes and making cement. they bring in big concrete chunks and crush it and has nothing to do with the stadium project.

This really pisses me off. I need someone to help me post pictures her at RfU. I'm so frustrated I don't know how to post pictures or vidios, because I can sure show what the site is really about. I'm open to sugestions. that picture just below mayor Robles and the bald guy is not even the stadium site. I don't get where Robles thinks he's going to get out of this. He knows about all the remediation that needs to be done. they are trying to make it look like construction is going on at the proposed Carson site, and that's just not true.

And thx Hacksaw, it helps when someone else has been there and seen what I see every day. It pisses me off no end the lies these folks are trying to perpetrate. I'm tempted to go to the mayors office and ask Albert WTF he thinks he doing backing these lies. What is he getting out of it? What is McKernen getting out of it?

Is the issue moving the information from your device to the computer or from the computer to RFU or both?

I watched the entire video. McKernan for the most part let the guy doing the tour speak. They went on about a 12 minute drive but it might have been a little longer. The drive started in the parking lot, then went by the methane pumping station, along the 405, then the trailer park and back to the parking lot. He mentioned some of the remediation work that has been done and what needs to be completed for construction of either a stadium or for retail development. Tim asked a few questions in regards to the timing to get the work completed. The contractor said about 18 months and that some of the construction on the development can be done while the remediation is completed. There was no hype and it was pretty straightforward.
