Yeah the d sucked.
All game long.
Philly had 29 first downs and 455 total yards compared to the Rams 17 first downs and 307 yards.
And when the chips were down, the D couldn’t stop Nick Effing Foles.

If Aeneas has the all-22 of that strip fumble play, I think you will see that Goff and McVay were going for the juggular - and Sammy was coming open in the deep post, cover 1 or maybe 3, corner was beat inside and safety was on the wrong hash and lay to get over. Had Goff had a split second longer, we probably win on a massive TD pass and Goff is the darling of all. Also, had the D not made stupid penalties and got off the field more often, Goff would have had a few more drives to do even more damage.

We should put everything in perspective. We played the team that had the same numbers as our offense. A lot of defenses fall pray to them like a lot of defenses fall pray to the Rams. It's 1 loss. We win next week, we only need 1 more win in the last 2 to be division champs. Lick our wounds and beat Seattle. Remember we're winners for the first time in 14 years and with a win next week, we could soon be division champs for the first time in 14 years. It's all good.

For all the guys blaming the Philly loss on Wade TheOldMan&TheD Phillips & his charges.....a coupla thoughts:

The Eagles Offense was neck and neck with us and the Patriots for NFL best, so it's not like our D laid down for a bunch of slouches okay.

We lost a starting CB Jayvon Webster early on and later when TruJo went down we ended up the game with backups at both CB positions. Look how Bortles lit up Seattle yesterday without a coupla Seahawk DB stalwarts eh!

The QB hits on Wentz were numerous.....even before the KO hit from Mark Barron and Morgan Fox on Wentz's TD run that was nullified by a Eagle Penalty.....so it's not like we had zero pass rush, but it got there alot of the times A SPLIT SECOND TOO LATE (a la the Goff strip fumble split-second alibi).

....and let's not forget the Rams O was setup pretty nicely for their opening TD when Robey-Coleman picked off GoldenBoy Wentz's first pass

Back to the RAMS O.....

....why kneel down with 4 seconds left to go in the half huh McVay? What the Zebra Crew we had on Sunday were shy to throw PI flags??? I don't think so.....so throw deep to Kupp or Sammy and hope for a PI call and then trot GregTheLeg out to kick a freebie FG......beats kneeling down in my book.

....and another thing McVay....that vaunted Eagle D was powerless to stop Gurley's runs wide to the sidelines.....so why run TG up the gut 100% of the time....late in the game.....when it was crucial clock-burning time huh??? Gurley was running like a man possessed on those tosses outside.....we shudda employed them until Philly D could demonstrate that they could stop them consistently.

2 or 3 holding calls finally game late in the game. Donald does get held virtually every play. Some other blatant holds on Wentz scramble and throw plays in the 1st half on other Rams. I get they don't want to call every one, but yet to they call taunting and leverage? WTF.

Yes. Taunting? LEVERAGE??? Not to mention that long PI call in the first half, also bogus.

Granted, the defense was bad yesterday. But when they actually did do enough to get off the field, the refs on several occasions turned them right around and kept them out there. Points were scored off of those mystery penalties.

Our bad defense could have used a little equitable judgment in those cases. That's all it might have taken to win this game.

Sometimes its difficult for me to see how well or how poor we play during the game.

Its when Foles came in and pretty easily drove the team down to take the lead it really was apparent how poorly our defense played.

Next week I expect a better defensive performance.

offense puts up 28, against the #2 defense no less, and special teams tacks on another 7 to put you at 35 on the day, should easily be more than enough to put a game away, unless the defense epically fails.

C'mon, it wasn't Goff or the offense or the special teams, the D looked like Swiss cheese. I know it's close to Christmas, but we gave them so many gifts with bonehead penalties that even the ref's felt generous on our behalf and gave the Beagles gifts..
