They estimate that over 50,000 of them are buried throughout the landfill. Some of the known contaminates are DDT, Benzene, Toluene, Pherous Oxide and PCB's ( power) transformers). Many of the drums have unknown toxic contaminants. Back in the 50's and 60's, Hospital waste was packaged in 55 gallon drums and sent to the landfill from all over southern California. The Calif. State Board of Health is concerned that if they sink pilings into the landfill to shore up the stadium to prevent liquefaction, pathogens, virus or biological contaminants may be released into the air. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why Carmon Policy, Mark Fabriani, the Charger, the Raiders, the City of Carson, and the NFL have done their damnedest to keep the conversation about remediation out of public view. The 55 gallon drums are just one problem. There are many more. Groundwater contamination, methane leaks are others. What pisses me off no end is the fact that all the parties involved know full well the problems associated with the proposed Carson site, and they continue to lie by omission and mislead the public, trying to make it look like they can just go in and build a stadium tomorrow, when they all know full well that is not the case. The city of Carson purchased 50 mil in bonds to be used for remediation, nowhere near the amount needed for the cost of a complete remediation. The engineering required will go over 5o mill before it gets off the draft table. So far, Carson hasn't spent one dime for remediation. by BuiltRamTough 9 years 4 months ago Total posts: 5357 Joined: May 15 2015 Los Angeles Hall of Fame Re: Roger Goodell, six owners taking more prominent role in NFL's potential return to L.A POST #12 bubbaramfan wrote:Ripper, I believe this is related in part to the 55 gallon drums that are buried in the landfill that are corroding and leaking.
