why is a 7-8-1 record an indication of quarterback play? the vikes were 5-0 with lousy qb play. the ravens won a super bowl with a passing game that ranked 23rd in completion %, and 20th in qb rating.

The running game? 29 year old Steven Jackson in his 9th year. In Bradford's 2nd season, just 6 and a half games played (3-4 with Bradford, more 7-9 bullshit). Austin, Givens and Cook with Zac Stacy at RB. Where's he at now? In Bradford's third season, no season. Shaun Hill and Austin Davis got us 6-10 bullshit. The trade for Foles? It had to be done. The options were, 1) stay with Bradford or, 2) try and unload him on somebody else. He was in the last year of his deal and played 7 games in 2 seasons. It was a lose-lose scenario unless they won the Superbowl, which wasn't going to happen. If he plays well, he's a free agent and they have to pay him a few years and a lot of money. Of course there's always the franchise tag but that's a gamble in itself too. If he was injured again, no trade value and no contract. Foles was the safer gamble (we all know Bradford was a gamble no matter what and despite hindsight) but Foles imploded and we had more 7-9 bullshit. Which brings us to Goff and 2016. We'll be lucky to get to 7-9. Failure to find legit backups? They found a decent backup in Keenum. How it plays out is going to be interesting to watch. Goff with a new HC next year? Or Fisher with Goff for 16 games? Either way, I like the way the kid plays and he should only get better. That's what I'm hanging my hat on.

It's all we have to hang our hat on at this point. Less worried about Goff, than what Fisher has left for his successor. Or for himself if there is none. Britt and Quick are UFAs...don't know if that's a cause for concern or joy. We have Tavon Austin signed for a $15M cap charge next year with $11.5M fully guaranteed. Our LT just got benched...is he any good? Are the other OL? And is Todd Gurley a true feature back? Kind of like Bradford, we can certainly distribute the blame, but the video on Gurley doesn't look good at all.

So is everything going to magically get better just based on Fisher staying or going? I think not (although I want him gone).

I don't think it'll take magic for things to get better though. And I do think with a different HC, they would get better so Fisher leaving would make many things better. Maybe not everything, but enough.

2nd rate, journeyman QB playing in a poorly designed offensive system is just a recipe for disaster. But that is on Fisher. He had the ability to upgrade the backup position but he didn't. He inherited an injured Bradford and his backup Clemens. Despite how poorly Clemens played in relief, he didn't upgrade. Bradford hurt again, Clemens again shows he's pretty horrible. So Fisher "upgrades" Clemens with Hill, again choosing not to use the draft to groom a backup or upgrade the depth. Foles, Keenum, yadda yadda yadda... Fisher just doesn't get it. Now on his 3rd OC in 5 seasons he's seen the light and needs an experienced OC??
Gimme a break
Say Fisher gets next year provided he turn it over to a proven OC. Who are they realistically going to get? Who wants to go to a team with a lame duck coach? And if it doesn't work out, the Rams clean house and then what? Goff gets his 3rd OC in 3 years? Sound familiar??

aeneas1 wrote:the average at best talent the rams have had under center since fish has been hc is certainly a contributing factor, as is the number of qbs that have started games, but as you point out those were fish's calls...

the absolute horror that has been the rams offensive point production under each qb since 2012:

I don't know how easy it was to pull up those numbers but I'd be curious to know what his Tenn QB numbers were after McNair. I know the Kerry Collins/Vince Young offense were pretty terrible too

Its hard to say how much is the quarterbacks he has or the system they run. Bradford is doing maybe slightly better than with the Rams, but he's not lighting it up. He didn't light it up in a quarterback friendly offense under Chip Kelly. He's doing Ok in Minny but he's more of a game manager. Is that just the type of QB Bradford is? Or did Fisher ruin him? The rest of the quarterbacks were no better than backup quality.

I gotta think its been a combination of both. Bradford just wasn't the guy we all thought he'd be. But the system they run, and the coaching is not conducive to good quarterback play. All we can do is hope Goff can excel in spite of that.

This scenario isn't about Fisher seeing the light and hiring an experienced OC and giving the new guy offensive autonomy. Don't we all agree that, left alone, Fisher isn't going to do something like that? I mean, isn't it clear after all these years that he believes in his offensive philosophy? I think what we're proposing here is that, in exchange for an extension of his contract to be HC, Fisher would be given the ultimatum to hire an experienced OC and give the new guy offensive autonomy. My question is, do people really believe that Stan Kroenke would want to issue such an ultimatum, and if he did, would Jeff Fisher be willing to accept those terms? I'm not so sure of either one.

And furthermore, if Williams runs the D, Fassell runs ST and the new OC runs the O, what does fisher do? I mean at that point do you really need to pay someone 5 mill to be HC?
