I just don't get it. Finally have some money to spend and we sit on our hands.
Now all we need to do is draft a DT in the first round and the offense will be completely depressing

Overall, they've actually done pretty well in the draft so I'm not too concerned in that regard. It's what happens after the draft that is the problem. Tavon Austin for example. I don't mind that pick at all for a team that is prepared to use him. But Fisher's got no clue.

That's what makes a QB pick so unnerving. I'm VERY ready for the Rams to take a QB but what's the point? They took a QB relatively high last year and as abysmal as the two guys in front of him played, he still couldn't get on the field at the end of the year in meaningless games. Why on God's green Earth Mannion didn't get at least 1-2 starts last year is beyond me. The same thing happened in '98. Banks had played himself out of a job, the Rams were out of the playoff hunt and they still kept starting Banks instead of giving some nobody named Warner a shot. Just to see what he could do.

I was hoping to limit the extension damage to one year, but maybe Fisher knows he's getting a 3+ year extension. I don't anticipate Stan eating a Fisher contract for another shoddy performance so Fisher would probably get the full run of a long extension, if that is what happens.

I sure was hoping for someone new to look forward too. Someone that might indicate there is hope for an improved offense. At least the possibility.

Elvis, I hope you are right because EVERYTHING else on O is status quo to date. One could quasi-argue even lesser than without Stedman and Cook. Maybe miracle man passing game coordinator can revive Quick and turn him into Alshon????

I didn't realize the off season was over and we couldn't add any more new players.

That's because we can.

I'm responding to the 'standing pat' attitude the Rams are taking. Unless we score a top NCAA QB or get luckier than usual with one in a lower round we are still going to be stuck in the mud. Hoping to land a FA QB or WR or TE or something.

And I was saying it sounds like you, and many others have done one of two things, sometimes both.

1) Taken a defeatist attitude because we aren't out spending tons of cash on other people's free agents. It was posted here in one of the many free agent threads and it's obvious just looking at free agency every year. Teams that spend the least on other people's players sustain a higher win percentage. Build through the draft, retain your own players and suppliment them through free agency.

2) Assume that we can't get better through the draft and that we have to replace players lost through free agency. Building through the draft and playing young guys is the best way to manage your roster. He'll just look at the similarities with how we and Seattle have handled attrition in our secondary. A guys a couple years from free agency and likely going to cost more than you'll be able to afford long term then you plan ahead and draft and train his successor. I don't think it's pure chance that Cody Davis got the contract he did. Replacing JJ? Not easy but Roberson and Joyner have gotten a ton of experience lately and we have Gaines and Bryant coming back.

The nfl is the opposite of the nba, you win by drafting well. And the Rams had a bunch of tough decisions this off season and it will continue happening every off season that we keep drafting well. But this year we have to nail a QB down, in the draft.
