This is one point that I have never bought into. There may have been a strong belief that the CVC wouldn't comply with the lease but Rams did make a significant effort to make it work, the Rams increased the marketing budgets, expanded the media coverage thought the market and their charitable activities. All of which wouldn't have been done if the intention was to move. Even the Rams proposal for arbitration wasn't designed to create an impasse but one that would have been cheaper than building a new stadium. Kroenke did try to make it work but everything changed with the CVC's "not first tier proposal to the Rams". The name of the proposal just showed that there was never any intention of working with the the Rams.

Good to see a coldly realistic and objective St. Louis writer.

Much better than that self-righteous crap spewed by Miklasz and others.

Edward Jones scraps naming rights on Dome

by David Hunn

ST. LOUIS • Edward Jones is cancelling the naming rights contract on its namesake downtown football stadium.

The financial services company sent termination letters Thursday to the Los Angeles Rams and the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission, which runs the facility.

The move was expected. Last month, the National Football League formally approved the Rams’ move from St. Louis to Los Angeles. By contract, Edward Jones can cancel its agreement if the Rams leave the stadium.

The Rams have until March 31 to get the 40-foot tall lettering off the roof and signs down from the building, inside and out.

John Boul, Jones’ manager of global media relations, said the company would remove the various placards and charge the Rams.

The termination letter says the cost can’t exceed $500,000.

The contract was signed in 2002. Jones’ managing partner, Jim Weddle, said in a statement that the firm has paid more than $32 million over 14 years for the rights.

“While we share in the disappointment related to losing our NFL team, we remain committed to supporting the St. Louis region as well as our other professional and amateur sports,” he continued.

That was to be expected with the naming rights. Might be why when they renegotiated the naming rights a couple years ago it was done by annual payments not a lump sum.

Lol, the real journalists are accepting it and moving it on. Shane's prowling the pee wee league sidelines reporting with his day job and mixing in his Rams hate at night.
