The Rams usually move their picks to fit there needs unless they drop into their lap like Verse did.

IMO the Rams need to invest OT, CB and TE with the first few picks. I dont think there is a QB, RB or WR that meets these elevated picks (1st and two thirds).

OT- Havs is nearing the end and we have to sign AJ
CB-need a shutdown guy with some size length
TE- need an athlete at this position

My preferences are dependent on what they do in free agency. If the re-sign Jackson then OT is not as high a priority. If they bring back Robinson he could solve the WR2 problem. If they sign a CB free agent then its not as high a priority in the draft.

According to the trade calculator number 26 is worth the same as a mid 2nd and mid 3rd. If they made the right moves in free agency I wouldn't mind a trade down for more picks on day 2.

My top priorities would be WR2, CB and ILB. They need a good receiver to keep teams from focusing on Puka. If they can improve the back end of the defense I can see that unit being a top ten defense. They already have one of the best front 4's. A thumper type ILB could help shore up the run defense. If they had an answer for Barkley they woulda been in the Superbowl.

The one position no one is looking at is RB. The Rams took Corum in the 3rd round last year. But he hasn't exactly looked stellar in his few touches so far. I honestly don't think Corum is what the Rams need in this offense. He has average field vision, and average agility and burst. He's more of a one read and run downhill type of RB. He's good at breaking arm tackles but has average overall speed. I think they may revise their thinking on the RB role in this offense. To have a limited RB who isn't a potential game breaker simply increases the pressure on the QB to deliver the points. It's why I think the Rams may re-visit their opinion of the role of the RB in this offense. Play action loses it's effectiveness if the RB poses no game breaking scoring threat. That was what Akers brought, but his inability to run inside limited his effectiveness overall. But the fake outside run did help the playaction albeit in a limited way.

I see them taking a RB this year probably in day three. I would expect the RB to be 5'10"-5'11" at least 200 lbs with 4.45 type speed but equally important with a 10 yd split close to 1.54 (burst). More than anything, the trait the Rams will want is excellent field vision and agility both of which are what separates Williams from most RBs. Williams simply lacks the overall speed to exploit when he breaks open. He normally gets run down from behind before he scores. That is a lot of points left on the board during the season.

Jarquez Hunter looks to be a 6th round choice but might provide a developmental (one year) prospect. His film reflects good speed with good burst and looks to have good agility which seems to suggest good vision as well. He's a capable receiver and a smaller RB that McVay favors. He would be raw in regards to the skillset required for the NFL, i.e. pass blocking, and receiving, but nothing that isn't coachable. Williams is in a contract year with Corum behind him. The Rams need better than Schrader beyond that. So a RB like Hunter though not an immediate starter would have a year to develop and only cost a late 3rd day pick. Williams himself was a 5th round pick.

IMO Corum is a rotational RB and not much more. Inside the short red zone Corum can be a threat but not so much beyond that. The Rams invested a 3rd round pick in Corum so they probably will give him an opportunity to expand his role this year. But he must show more than he has thus far. The Rams need a RB to move the chains but also one that can score if he breaks open. Neither Williams or Corum have shown that. Neither one is a weapon that defenses must account for on each down until they do.

IMO that is one of the lessons that should have been learned from this season. The threat of playaction increases if the RB can score from anywhere on the field. It takes a lot of pressure off the QB and OL by negating the fast pass rush by forcing the defense to read.

I don’t think Corum was drafted as a replacement for Williams at all. My god Williams had a nice year last year and his absence in the Det playoff game was huge. If they would’ve had a Corum they may have been able to stick with their initial running plan more. Ronnie Rivers is a try-hard, but not that guy IMO.

Corum was drafted to try to create a 2-headed monster out of the backfield. It gave them security if Williams got hurt. It gave them flexibility if Corum happened to be riding the hot hand during a game, etc.

I think SM is pretty clear on his desire for more speed from the playmaker position and that’s why they will be looking at WR, RB, and even TE. None of that precludes Corum’s role on the team however. They can take a chance on a lower drafted RB who fits the bill and hopefully coach him up more. They are much more likely to go WR and/or TE early because they are looking at potential immediate starters
