Seeing Williams added to the toast list last week with the Bills coming in, I only hope Forbes is in shape and may be able to get on the field Sunday. Not sure the Rams have ever been this depleted for talent at the CB position. I like the fact Curl played with him in Washington and likes the move. If they can pick it up like Verse/Fiske we’d have that side covered with Lake & Williams on the other side and Durant in the slot. Still holding out hope this team finds the answers in the NFL’s weakest Division. by Dare 2 weeks 5 days ago Total posts: 385 Joined: Mar 09 2024 Tucson, AZ formerly of San Diego Starter Rams Claim Emmanuel Forbes POST #14 As I've said in another post this is basically their draft choice early. It will give them extra time to develop him. He's good enough now to provide quality depth. They needed to target a CB in next year's draft and with the few picks they have this is better than they could have gotten next year. With his 5th year option, they control his rights for 3 years. He's got talent he simply needs development, i.e. good coaching with his technique and physical development. The kid has talent and this is a solid low risk high reward type of signing. He's got excellent length and speed and next year will provide Shula with options in how he plays his secondary. I think White and Williams are gone next year so this signing is anticipation for that eventuality. by PARAM 2 weeks 4 days ago Total posts: 12683 Joined: Jul 15 2015 Just far enough North of Philadelphia Hall of Fame Rams Claim Emmanuel Forbes POST #15 This happens whenever there is a new HC, especially when it's a defensive guy. Forbes played significant snaps in 3 games this year. Week 1; 35 (55%), week 4; 33 (56%) and week 7; 29 (67%). He played minimal snaps in 3 other games (4, 6 and 2). He's been inactive 4 games and didn't see playing time in 3 others. This doesn't mean he can't play. He might not fit in Quinn's scheme. Speaking of Quinn's scheme, the Commanders are ranked #16 in yards allowed, so is it because of Forbes or because they haven't been playing Forbes? Either way, it's now our first round pick from 2023, so let's see what he can do. To add to RAMMAN76 dive into his background, here's some more.Forbes was selected by the Washington Commanders in the first round (16th overall) of the 2023 NFL draft. His slim weight is a common point of discussion, with him being the only cornerback drafted since 2000 to weigh under 170 pounds at the NFL Combine. He signed a fully guaranteed four-year $15.4 million contract on July 22, 2023.Forbes recorded his first career interception in his second game, a 35–33 win over the Denver Broncos. In the Week 4 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, he was criticized for his performance covering wide receiver A. J. Brown. The following week, he was benched after multiple blown coverages against Chicago Bears wide receiver D. J. Moore. In the first quarter of the Week 10 game, Forbes was ejected after an helmet-to-helmet hit against Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett. The NFL fined him for $15,563 for his Week 10 ejection.Following the opening game of the 2024 season, Forbes underwent surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right thumb. In the Week 6 win over the Carolina Panthers, he recorded his second career interception against quarterback Andy Dalton. Forbes was waived by the team on November 30, 2024So he's skinny. But he's fast. And he's a ballhawk. Obviously the Rams believe he's worth a try to coach him up and since they get him for nothing, the ceiling is high. Is it wrong to desire ball hawks in secondary (Kinchens), even if they lose a gamble now and then? We have a DL that is among the leaders in pressures and though they don't always result in a sack, they can result in a rushed pass. If you have a collection of ball hawks back there, chances are you're going to get a fair share of picks. And turnovers are huge plays. We'll see. He could end up being cut by the Rams. Or he could stick. Been following the horns since the Coliseum had a Roman playing there. The biggest one is the soft zone which the Commanders often played much in the same way Morris played his secondary often times aligned 5 or more yards off the LOS. Also, he was thrown into the fire not ready to play. He was painfully raw coming out of Miss. State and really needed to be coached up for a year as his technique was very poor. From things I've heard that was obvious in TC but ignored because he was a "first round pick". My only reservation will be one of culture. He rubbed the coaches the wrong way as he tended to be a "showboat" type of look at me type of player. That isn't going to fly in this team culture any more than it did with the Commanders. His penalties for "unsportsmanlike conduct" came at very inopportune moments. IMO that reflects as much upon the coaching as it does on the players. That is in reality why he was released. His inconsistent play due to his poor technique and his immaturity is what got him released. I'm sure Les and Snead told him that won't fly in LA anymore than in Washington. That said, this team has strong player leadership and he will see real quick that he cannot play that way. I know he will receive good coaching in this organization. I'm sure that Les and Sean understand this. He's hugely talented, so if he can channel his emotions into self improvement the Rams will have a quality starting CB in Forbes. If not it cost them little. Not only does he need to be coached up on his technique but he will need to hit the weight room hard. Too many times he missed tackles because he simply bounced off. It wouldn't surprise me if he didn't play at all this year. Using these extra months to physically develop and develop as a player potentially will pay big dividends next year. This was IMO a low risk vs high reward type of signing. by ramsman34 2 weeks 3 days ago Total posts: 9461 Joined: Apr 16 2015 Back in LA baby! I think the Rams are already working on packages with him and once they implement, they will keep adding to and building his use out, depending on how he responds. They are going to build his confidence as they integrate him into the defense as he stated that is what the Rams felt was missing at Washington. Tackling is an issue throughout the defense so in that sense, he fits right in already, lol. by ramsman34 2 weeks 2 days ago Total posts: 9461 Joined: Apr 16 2015 Back in LA baby! by PARAM 2 weeks 4 days ago Total posts: 12683 Joined: Jul 15 2015 Just far enough North of Philadelphia Hall of Fame Rams Claim Emmanuel Forbes POST #15 This happens whenever there is a new HC, especially when it's a defensive guy.
