Which is exactly why the Rams moved him. Jones had one good year which was last year and he wanted to cash in on it. So the Rams felt the need to move him. His play this year has reverted to his good but not elite level of play. The problem with Jones is he's limited. We aren't talking Bobby Wagner level of play. I guess I'm in the minority who really wasn't surprised or dismayed when he was traded. I watched Jr Seau during his days in San Diego and so believe me I know a great MIKE LB when I see one. The bottom line IMO Jones is replaceable and will be. He really wasn't a scheme fit for the way Shula uses his LBs. Reeder isn't either but I think he was simply a stop gap, i.e. bridge player for the position. I think Speights could be a long term solution, as he has the athleticism lacking in Jones. In college he showed good anticipation when reading the offense. He potentially could be good in coverage, but he's very raw. I think he has flashed enough to show long term potential. I was a bit mystified about Hummel's loss of weight. I assumed it was to give him a bit more speed to play as a coverage LB. But it plays against him in defending the run. Coming in he was built like a MIKE LB and his play would seemed to have suggested that role for him. I thought he might be the follow-on MIKE but now I think they might be looking at Omar for that role. Unless either locks the position down over the remaining season I think ILB (MIKE) will be a priority for the Rams in the draft (probably day two). His situation is analogous to Alaric Jackson. A decent player, but not nearly elite. But I've always thought he would expect more than the Rams will offer. The biggest issue IMO is he's still struggling with the same technique issues as he has always. He should be improving but he isn't. IMO he's what he is and it's all he will be. The Rams will likely offer him an average extension but I don't see him taking it. If he signs for a big dollar contract elsewhere great because then he becomes a comp pick, which is more than the was originally signed for as an UDFA. Funny thing is I almost never agree with PFF but in regards to Jackson I do. He grades out in PFF as average and that is exactly what I see in his play. I see a change coming at LT, but for this season he's doing okay. When Avila gets back that is when the OL will be at full strength. 1 by Joe Pendleton 8 months 1 week ago Total posts: 2150 Joined: Jun 12 2021 LA Coliseum Pro Bowl Two Questions To Ponder POST #17 agreed 100%.. from above quote @ramsww " I watched Jr Seau during his days in San Diego and so believe me I know a great MIKE LB when I see one. What are the odds they move the ball 80 yards after not moving the ball well the entire second half. In fact from the end of the first quarter. Forget the 2 pt conversion. A FG wasn't going to help them on that last drive. Remember the first play of that last drive. Darnold was about 7 or 8 yards short on an out. Because of pressure. The D would have pressured him on every pass. I like the odds of a turnover on downs or a turnover better than going 80 yards and getting a 2 pointer. Now go and do the same thing to Geno and the Seahawks!!!! Been following the horns since the Coliseum had a Roman playing there.
