I guess I should have titled the thread I started differently.

This season sure showed us what would happen if our top guy goes down. It seems fairly obvious John Wolford or Bryce Perkins are not the answer at backup QB.
What about a guy like newly released Mayfield? He's ranked pretty low in quite a few categories but he's better than those guys combined. He's only due $1.3 (I think). He'd make a solid backup to Stafford and he could be in the Hollywood scene he's a natural for.
But do it before SF does.

If Stafford doesn't return and Baker shows well in the last few games (and doesn't get killed behind that O-line) we might have our new QB or at least a REAL backup.

I'm fine with it

1) The price is low.
2) The risk is low.
3) The situation is right.
4) Given the nature of Staffords injury you can't be too safe.
4a) Anything spine, neck, brain related is so unsure.
