I've noticed that AD is more public than he used to be, doing commercials, interviews, stuff like that. I chalked it up to him thinking about what comes after football and he sure didn't shoot the story down when given a chance. If he retired he'd be walking away from around $50 mil and would leave the Rams a dead cap hit of 21 mil next year.

I guess i can see the AD one going either way. Maybe the Rams want him to redo his contract and this is his opening salvo?

The McVay story has been out there for a while but i didn't want to bring it up while we were on this amazing SB run. First it was Florio who's an idiot and i didn't put any stock in it. But then i heard Marchand and Ourand talking about it and that started to make me a little nervous. It's definitely an idea that's out there. McVay could be a media star. The money is good and it's a lot less work than coaching. Plus he could come back to coaching whenever he wanted. And right now the iron is awfully hot.

Still i don't see it happening this year but seems like a real possibility at some point in the not too distant future...

Only if Stan sells the team to another Georgia; otherwise, this is now a class act organization and we will attract the best and brightest.

Unlike Georgia, there will be no hesitation to jettison coaches/players that don't meet the highest of standards...as in winning.

Cowherd was saying McVay's last contract negotiation got heated and that Stan "won" that negotiation. He was saying Stan doesn't like to spend on anything but real estate so doesn't pay up for coaches, GMs etc.

So perhaps Sean is posturing. ESK doesn't seem like a cheapo, and this would be a misdirected place to be that way.

That got me thinking that yes, he wants to capitalize more on his name, and what better way to keep your name out there then floating the retirement balloon. The press just will not let go of it. The Aaron Rodgers playbook. Cynical maybe, and really doesn’t seem like Aaron’s style, but who knows when agents get in their ears.

That would be a big mistake. Just make McVay the highest paid coach. He is probably more valuable to this franchise than the stadium.

Or players? All the Rams players are living off of beans...

I guess I assumed everyone had heard the McVay rumblings. Jourdan Rodrigue wrote about it and I heard him discussing it.

Said he’s getting married this summer, he’s always wanted to be a father, he’s struggling with work/life tradeoffs. His dad refused to follow his Grandfather into the NFL to spend more time with the family and he’s always remembered that.

So maybe just a negotiating ploy, or worst case a few years down the road. I’m sure he wants to drive the Stafford train a bit farther. But it’s important to keep in mind that he could make twice what he made last year if he went up to the booth.

There are a lot of married coached in the football would and many football brides who are football widows during the season. I'm sure he could do it if Veronika was on board. I mean she knows what she's marrying into.
The grandfather / father thing might have shown him a path though.

He would be on the road as much or more during the season in the booth. Those long hours in coaching though would likely be more time consuming though.
