That's why I never liked Pat Haden, he was short, weak arm and small hands, but smart? Sound familiar? Anyways it always bothered me the Rams traded Jaworski and kept Haden because of Haden's pedigree and nothing more. Like Haden the person and the announcer and the way he's embraced the Rams coming home, but hated him as a QB and I believe the Rams would have kept Ferragamo and not allowed him to go to Canada, but they thought they were set with Pat Haden once again and again Haden proved he was better off talking about the game than playing it.

I did like Haden. He was smart. I think they let Pat call his own plays. I remember a game against the Vikings, in Minnesota, that we should have lost, but we won by about 3 because Haden kept the Vikings guessing wrong all day. Still, despite the fact that I liked Haden, I thought Jaworski was going to be a star, and I hated it when they traded him. As for Ferragamo, he took them to the Super Bowl and almost knocked off the big bad Steelers. When Vince was on, he was as good as it got. I always thought it was a big mistake to let him go.

FYI, Terry Bradshaw also called his own plays.... and he was no Rhodes scholar :)

My post was in reference to after the 1980 season when the Rams let Ferragamo head to Canada because they did not want to pay him. Front Office thinking was they had Haden so they did not have to pay Vince who went to Canada instead...Georgia was always penny wise and dollar foolish as she ended up making a move to acquire Bert Jones from the Colts in 1982 and brought back Ferragamo as well, but the Rams traded draft picks for Jones who played in like five game before his career was over....Jeff Kemp came along in 1984 after Ferragamo was hurt in the third game of the year and lost for the season.

Don't forget Steve Dils who's jersey looked like it read "Oils."

Went to the Buffalo Bills after the 84 season because in 1985 the Los Angeles Rams signed a QB from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and you know the rest of the story!

I sat in the front row, 50 yard line for a Jets/Bills game when Ferragamo played for them. A buddy of mine got me the tickets knowing I was a Ferragamo guy.
IIRC, he had just thrown for like 4 hundo in his previous game. Jets crushed them, and I was a pseudo Jets fan at the time because I dug Ken O'Brien
Marty Lyons was the man. He reached in to the stands and gave us high 5's like 10 times during the game

Kept motioning that he wanted a beer, nobody ever gave him one and I always wonder if he woulda drank it if they had

alas, that stretch when the rams rolled the dice on washed-up pro bowl qbs at the end of their careers, hoping for one last hurrah, namath, jones, bartkowski, none started more than a handful of games...

A very bizarre time.

But I don't think anything trumps the last 21 years.
