If those that are troubled by the announcement want the gay players to not announce their orientation, then let’s ask the straight players to stop announcing theirs. So thankfully that would mean a lot less Russell Wilson/Ciara and Aaron Rodgers/Shalene Woodly news.

And if McVay gets married on this current trip it’s his business so there’s no reason to share.

To each their own. It is called freedom.

But the dude came out for the attention. If you can not see that then you are as blind as most everything that is harming this nation.

And the rightie take is that it's for attention. Pretend to come out as gay...see if you enjoy the attention. 8-)

Part of his announcement including saying he donated to the group that is the most active in addressing teen lesbian and gay suicides. That's a big issue since the attempted suicide rate in those communities is obviously much higher than the general population. So part of what he achieved was to draw some attention to that.

This is the NFL, the Rams, Obo, Nassib doing this.

If you wanna make it a left/right thing, general discussion please...

Let’s not forget which team drafted the first out player. Our Rams.

Maybe Nassib would still be in the closet of the Rams hadn’t started all this?

… Smith says he completely understands the cultural significance of having an openly gay player in the NFL -- and believes Nassib's decision to come out will have a tremendous impact.

"Obviously, we like to see the inclusion part. We like to see folks that understand that the world is changing and you have to embrace those that may be a little bit different and it's okay."

But, ultimately, Smith believes NFL locker rooms have been more inclusive than people think ... and the notion that older players wouldn't have accepted a gay teammate is just wrong.

"Judge me by my character and judge me by the way I treat people. If we show a little bit more love and compassion in the world, this will be a much better place."

The way I feel about it. You do your thing. I do mine. As long as we're happy its all good. And if you're a really good player, even better. 8-)

Well that's fairly enlightened and everything, but it leaves something out. If you're gay you face a very hostile and judgmental world. In fact it's more than that, it can be dangerous. The reason you come out is not to say "hey here's what I do." It's to make an effort to reduce the hostility by getting people used to the idea that there's all kinds out there.

We straight people have the luxury of saying "whatever, everyone just be yourself." We don't face heavy, common backlash for being straight. I don't face crowds of hostile people hissing "vanilla man!" at me when I walk down the street. 8-)

The world you want will happen, probably, but only after a lot of situations like Nassib coming out where it all gets eventually normalized. If that ever happens then you will get your world, where everyone just says it's your thing and that's fine with me, let everyone be themselves.
