UtahRam wrote:So what happens if they give Stafford the same quality O-Line as Goff? How soon before most will want Stafford dumped?

My guess is they spend some of the cap savings on Oline and possibly some more speed. They were pretty up against it with Goff.

Is it accurate that the Lions took his guarantees? The $22 M hit?

So you know nothing about the Rams issues at OL in 2019.

Which is why implausibly you talk about a "2 year regression."

He had 4 bad games in 2020 and played well in the playoffs with a broken thumb. And that includes playing well when GB was only the 3rd team since the merger to score on all 5 of its 1st possessions in the playoffs.

Look that thing up about the 2019 OL, it's kind of relevant.

Meanwhile, is Stafford going to be good with the Rams? I am open to seeing that.

But he ain't gonna do any better behind a problem OL than any other qb, Goff included. The Rams OL was up and down in 2020, maybe they shore it up so it's more consistently solid.

An experienced QB will make our OL better just by being a better QB. Look at TB from '19 to '20 for all the proof you need. They went from 47 and 7.0% to 21 and 3.3% just by having a better QB under center. The improvement won't be as drastic with Stafford and the Rams since they already provide pretty good pass protection, but I bet it still gets better.

Stafford is better than Goff and will perform the better behind a weak line than Goff.
I still hope the Rams beef up the line and get more speed.
If Stafford restructures and its true that the $22m dead money was absorbed by Detroit, our team now has more options to keep important FAs and fill a couple roster needs.
I'm thrilled if that all occurs.

that's the theory, but the guy sure got sacked a lot in detroit.

spotrac screwed up, and couple of outlets ran with it, spotrac has since corrected their error, the rams will eat goff's $22.2m in dead money in 2021.

Now the line may be the only area they can afford to improve (if). That $22m would have made the trade of those picks more palatable imo.

Ouch. Thats not as good. I'm surprized the Rams didn't require that.

I guess we will find out for sure about the cap. I guess it all depends on when the extension starts ( thought 2021) and if the Rams paid out any money from the new deal prior to the trade or moved cap on Goff’s deal in 2019 or 2020.
