If they could trade him after the June deadline, I think the cap hit is only $6M.

Anyone know for sure?

Goff isn't overpaid if he's producing. The problem is, Goff has been a bottom tier QB, production wise, for almost 3 years.

With what he is producing, the Rams would be better off just drafting a new QB every 5 years. Maybe 6 with franchise tags or whatever. We're not talking about losing Manning in his prime or Rodgers or whatever. Our QB has been much more Joe Flacco than any of those guys.

If the Rams are going to move on, the goal is to get out from under what he's still owed with as little cost as possible. If they can trade him to someone willing to take on his salary, which should be considered affordable from their end if they consider him a starter, then we don't need a starting QB in return as part of the deal.

At least not IMO. We don't need an established top QB, whoever McVay gets he will turn him into that.

What team that possesses a first round pick do you think would trade that pick for Jared Goff (bonus points if you identify a QB you think would be available at their selection)?

w/o to much research and lots of dreaming here are a few scenarios,,

Jags #1 for Goff, Reynolds and picks. Get Lawrence or Fields. Not likely at all though.

Falcons #4 for Goff, Reynolds and picks. That's if Ryan hangs 'em up. Get Fields or Mac Jones. Reunite JG with TGII (if he is resigned).

Lions #7 if Stafford moves on. Same base trade and pick up Jones or Tre Lance.

Broncos #9 for similar package with less future picks and go after Jones or Lance.

Giants #11 for similar package no picks and go after BQBA still on the board if he fits our needs.

Like 74's idea if Rodgers wants to hang them up and reuniting Goff with LaFleur. It would be fun to see how he does compared to McV.

or Rams try and trade up for Sam Ehlinger, Texas in the 2nd to give Goff a push.

Not sure many teams would want Goff though.

For the record, I'm in the keep Goff group.

That being said, I will play along.

If they trade him after June 1st the cap hit is 6.5 million. I believe the Texans cap hit is 8.5 million on Watson if he's traded after June 1st. The best case scenario for both teams is a trade after June 1st.

I'm not sure on additional compensation but it would have to include draft picks for 2022 or beyond. Both teams get young QB'S already under similar contracts and control.

The question is there another team with a better deal after June 1st? Watson has a no trade clause that could force the Texans to take the deal from the team he wants to play for.

Again, probably not going to happen but that scenario would work best for both teams cap wise IMO.

Jared's a good QB who needs a top-tier o-line to maximize his talent. Moving on would be crazy. Getting a real o-line is what is needed. Having said that, it is on Goff, and Goff alone, to minimize the mind-numbing turnovers that tipped us all over this season.

Do you feel like the OL has been so problematic since '18 that it would have netted bottom tier production regardless of QB?

I still recall the rams v. Chiefs, where Goff was in the thrilling shootout with Mahommes. That showed incredible talent. I think we need to invest in the o-line to see if Goff can get back to that level. Goff is a guy who needs time in the pocket. If he gets that, he can be deadly. No risk in trying. Even if Goff drops off a la Wentz, we still would have a great o-line for the next guy.

Yes, I do unless you have a mobile QB who can escape pressure. Watching the other playoff games I didn't see other QB's getting pressured the way Goff has been or should I say as "often" as Goff does.

Rodgers didn't even get breathed on by our #1 D. :roll2:

IMO, it would be easier to build a good OL for a proven QB who we all know can excel when protection is working. OL are much cheaper than QB's. Fix the OL and you fix a bunch on things! Goff, the run game, deep passing game and McVay would be able to call more of the plays he likes to call. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

FIX THE DAMN OL!!!

Now you may be onto something. It may not be for Watson, but the Rams brain trust may be able to get an agreement with a team for a trade after June 1. The next part of this, or maybe its the first part is to add a QB in either a trade, FA, or draft.

But that $6.5M cap hit is very attractive.

But this is a what would you do if you were a GM and wanted to move Goff thread.
I also think we should go one more year with Goff and build him a top notch offensive (interior) line. Hopefully Whit can squeeze 1 more season out. That and a 50-50 ball catching take the top of a D receiver . If that doesn't work then scrap heap.
