Someone please explain to me how, at the end of the day, all these businessmen walk away from the meeting in Houston saying they are happy that they abandoned a market in Silicon Valley and a market in beautiful San Diego and they kept the market in rust belt STL.

Well, Oakland is not Silicon vallley, but it's not too far away. Also, it's a stones throw away from SF, which technically doesn't have a team as the Whiners now play in Santa Clara, an hour away by car. The BART takes you right from SF to the Coliseum. It's lunacy to leave a Bay Area market. A new stadium there would do very well as it can draw fans from both bays with ease.

I agree that it doesn't make sense financially to abandon the two better markets and keep the worst one for Stan K. On top of that, the committee the formed to help them decide has been helping that process along. Hard to imagine Stan K. just sitting there and taking it like that.

This was a PR strategy hatched by Fabiani - help make it appear that StL has delivered an attractive package to ESK and then shout it (and apparent support from other key figures) from the mountain tops in order to sway owner and public perception. An interesting last ditch approach, but Carson, Spanos & Davis are still just a toxic waste dump with two cash-poor trust fund babies with no business acumen. Not a winning strategy for long term NFL success in LA, or the goal of $25B in annual revenues.

No, but there are probably some serious doubt that Carson would receive the PSL support needed to fund. Unless GS would fund that gap, they wouldn't do that. Inglewood can fund the gap, and most likely draws the big money. Raiders don't bring that, Chargers probably lack the support.

I'd be absolutely ecstatic if the league & owners got fed up with a stalemate that couldn't be broken and just said, "Screw it: Rams, you're approved to build in Inglewood, and Chargers, go nuts in Carson."

Highly doubt it will happen because it would be calling Spanos' bluff, and I don't think he can fiscally afford to build Carson on his own, and it seems he has enough "buddies" in the ownership group to make sure poor ol' Deano doesn't leave this thing unhappy, but it's still fun to imagine, though.
