Why do the other owners like Dean? He's not even an owner

And how can Spanos claim that he's exhausted all efforts in SD when SD is coming up with plan after plan that would give the Chargers a new stadium?

Right now, he thinks he can win. He thinks he can at least block Kroenke, and sounds like he's right at this point.

Something is going to have to change between now and January for Spanos to give up on Carson. If the STL stadium deal falls apart, that may force Spanos to give in. Really, it's going to take the other owners to put pressure on him. If they don't, Spanos will just sit and wait it out.

The owners are under a lot of pressure as well. They have 3 months to get this thing resolved or risk putting themselves in a position that nothing gets done.

So how long does Kroenke wait to start digging if there is no decision in January?

I still think there's a good chance Carson is a bluff and Spanos is just gonna play it for all it's worth for as long as he can, get the most out of SD or Kroenke that he can.

OTOH, if somehow Carson is real, the owners who support him are gonna have to tell him at some point that the jig is up and he needs to make a deal. All this supposed backing Dean has could just be leverage to use against Kroenke and SD.

Now let's say everything coming from Fabiani/Chargers is real: Carson is legit, Dean has the votes to block Kroenke and isn't gonna make a deal with him. Kroenke can just move and let the chips fall where they may. It might not be option #1 but i'm pretty sure it's a win for Kroenke.

Is GS gonna finance Carson if Kroenke is already building Inglewood and at least a year ahead? Is the NFL gonna stay mad forever?

Seems like that's Kroenke's trump card: He has everything he needs to move.

So, in the end, Spanos takes the best deal he can get from either Stan or SD...

But that option is on the table and the league does not need that now. Not the way they've been taking hits lately. I still think money comes before personal relationships with these owners. They will find a way to let Kroenke fulfill his vision. And they will find a way to appease Spanos too. Kroenke seems more willing to concede things to Spanos. Spanos doesn't seem as willing. Owners have to notice that too.

It might not actual be a challenge in court. If the stalemate prevented a team in LA and Kroenke moved on his own, the League could choose not to take any action.

That's a good point.

The NFL would look weak but get some plausible deniability out of it going down like that...

The problem for the League is that the owners would still have to approve the penalties and it's unlikely that 24 owners would vote for them.

And penalty would be challenged in court. Maybe Kroenke can hire Brady's lawyer

There will never be any approved penalty just threats. The same way the League did to Behring. The difference is that they claimed victory for blocking the Seahawks even though their threats had nothing to do with the team remaining in Seattle.
