The owners knew it was a long shot getting Cali to approve tax funds but they played the leverage game anyway.

Can't disagree with you.

Politics is full of hypocrisy.

Glad i'm not a SD Chargers fan, must be gut wrenching...

I loved the Chargers had 2nd row seats on the goal line. Saddest thing I saw a kid that has grown up around my section. He was around 7 or 8 yrs old when his grandma made signs with him to hold and get on TV. He has gloves and autographs from almost every good player. The reporters and photogs would bring him things.

Now He's not a fan and he's 15, The Spanos family has alienated a couple generations of fans. Like Georgia did to Rams fans like me.

The kids grandfather ran track in Texas (the mile) and knew Eric Dickerson from track meets in high school. They won't be buying season tickets but they will watch Rams games on TV.

This article was from last week--

"“I talked to Commissioner Goodell a lot during the past month,” Mayor Kevin Faulconer says. “He was disappointed in the outcome.”

But powerless to stop it, obviously. Roger’s bosses didn’t want this to happen, but I have it on good authority they grew sick of Spanos’ whining, and, also, while realizing Rams boss Stan Kroenke can’t stand Dean (and vice versa), pleaded with Stan, who needs Dean like he needs another billion, to just let the Chargers into his Inglewood digs and have done with it (without giving Dean more money).

playing NFL games in a 30,000k stadium would be embarrassing .... San Diego is where the Chargers fans are...that's where they should be..

if the Owners want to keep San Diego..they're going to have to give Spanos a lot of help to build a stadium there.

My understanding is that there were feasible stadium offerings. The problem was Dean wanted a free stadium in the difficult to develop downtown area.

They will have to be quickly Super Bowl worthy or fail miserably in LA.

My thoughts are that LA is going to be a stop to where ever they end up with their own stadium. In Inglewood, they will always be a team that plays in the LA Rams stadium. Even now I feel like our Rams are playing in USC's stadium. Because its true. It's not ours. Big difference.

Let's be real. Dean couldn't even design or decide on a decent logo Los Angeles or sports fans could accept. Spanos is a big reason that Qualcomm is delapitated he was supposed to pay for upkeep and upgrades since its remodel.

There is no possibility that Dean is capable of having a stadium built. Alex Spanos was the builder, the kids are just the heirs to his hard work.... Allegedly

Yea I agree this is about a stadium someone else pays for be it SD or LA . However I don't believe he would move to LA and then look to have his own stadium. Perhaps some years or decades down the road this is viable.

For the immediate though he is gonna be forking over half a billion to three quarters of a billion give or take whatever he makes from his psl's sales, for ownership in a being built state of the art stadium.

I would also if I was Stan drop the one dollar a year rent. I would do a strait line fiscal responsibility based upon the limits or percentages of the partnership or ownership.

Reason I say this is down the road if Spanos doesn't see the returns he expects he could with smart counsel end up making Stan pay for his liabilities. There are rights and obligations our courts will uphold in a contract and there are rights and obligations our courts will uphold in a lessor/lessee relationship.

The waters are gonna be murky here so if I was Stan I would pick one or the other and not a hybrid of both as he could find himself in court in a short period of years and on the losing end of the stick seeing his own dream becoming a nightmare.

If he does go with a hybrid I would make sure I have plenty waiver of rights added in the contract for Spanos to sign. Otherwise this could become real ugly fast and leave the NFL having to solve a problem of unintended consequence.

That thinking does no good. Didn't stop the Rams from leaving LA, the Rams from leaving St. Louis and now the Raiders leaving Oakland. What the fans want is irrelevant.

If the owners are really angry, it's probably jealousy that a (bleep) up like Spanos is going to see his team's net worth double and play in a great new stadium while their teams stay the same and are stuck playing in 10 year old dumpy stadiums.
