I had to throw away all my clothes after sitting thru that damn game. Everything was ruined.

Most great coaches can run multiple schemes (more so on the D side of the ball) and they also adapt scheme to players. Wade is awesome at this and you can bet, as others have opined, that our LB corps will be getting an upgrade. McVay says he too adapts scheme to players, what a welcome sight THAT will be. Now get a great O-line and QB coach and we should be good to go....Oh ya, we need more really good players (OL/WR) PLEASE!

Agree.

I'm salivating over some possible Vet FAs for our WR group. You know, guys older than our coach who can catch a ball, maybe have caught a few. Maybe have been in a winning locker room.

Source: Wade Phillips Passed On Redskins Over Talent Concerns

by Chuck Sapienza (Thursday at 7:12 PM)

While the Washington Redskins were eager to sign Wade Phillips for their open defensive coordinator spot, the longtime coach passed due to concerns about the unit he would inherit, a source told Breaking Burgundy.

Phillips, who coached the Denver Broncos' Super Bowl winning defense last season, reportedly agreed to become the new defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams Thursday night shortly after reports had him set to meet with the Redskins on Friday.

According to the source, Phillips was “very concerned about the Redskins overall lack of talent” on the defensive side of the ball. The Redskins, per the source, strongly believe they are only “two or three starters” from fielding a very competitive defense if all their players can remain healthy and get on the field." That optimism wasn’t enough to sway Phillips who will now run a defense loaded with talent in Los Angeles and headed by new head coach Sean McVay.

An additional source familiar with the situation between the Redskins and Phillips states that Phillips had asked the Redskins front office for assurances that the defense will be a top priority in free agency and the draft. In turn, the Redskins shared more information about future plans than normal because “they wanted to complete the deal before another team acted."

Wes Phillips, Wade's son, serves as the Redskins tight end coach and provided and extra level of comfort during discussions.

McVay, the Redskins offensive coordinator the previous two seasons, became the youngest coach in NFL history when the Rams hired him earlier on Thursday.

The Redskins previously interviewed Mike Pettine and Gus Bradley, both former NFL head coaches with defensive coordinator experience for the opening. It's unclear if they expressed similar concerns about the overall lack of defensive talent. Washington ranked 28th overall in each of the past two seasons.

ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported Phillips to the Rams.
