According to Fred Roggin of NBC 4 Los Angeles, the San Diego Chargers will likely soon be the Los Angeles Chargers after having their lease agreement with the Los Angeles Rams in Inglewood, California approved.

Yesterday, news came out that Dean Spanos and the Chargers ownership would be requesting a debt waiver from the NFL to allow them to take a loan out to pay for part of their relocation fee. Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times is reporting that the fee is $650 million and that the owners have also approved the Chargers’ request.

NFL has approved a debt waiver that would allow Chargers to take out loan to pay $650 million relo fee and pay it back over longer period.

We’re still waiting for the NFL owners to approve an actual move to Los Angeles for the Chargers, but without an intervention by Roger Goodell (who works for the same owners that just approved this deal), it would appear that this could be the end of the San Diego Chargers.

Next up on the team’s checklist, after getting the move approved, would be finding a stadium to host its home games in Los Angeles for the upcoming season, with the Inglewood stadium expected to open before the 2018 NFL season begins.

This was all part of the expected business of the day. Shouldn’t be cause for increased alarm (above the high state of alarm already) …

I get that the city of StL could feel slighted if the NFL helps another city after turning it's back on StL arbitrarily. I am not privy to all the laws of the land or the NFL but I don't see a legal case though.

It would also come off as sour grapes and likely be another waste of public funds.

Going on record here, if SD moves to LA it will be in the bottom 5 in actual attendance in the league after year 1 and will be one of the biggest mistakes the NFL has ever done.

My guess is a bunch of rules/guidelines will be adjusted so the Chargers can stay in San Diego.

I don't believe it would be a cash give away bro. It could be a scenario as such, Benson owns Benson financial. We already know Spanos was gonna have to use Goldman's to make Carson a reality.

So the owners and Benson using his financial company or banks could set it up so Spanos is loaned the money of fellow owners deposits or investment. Spanos was granted 10 years already to pay for the relocation fee and now the owners have agreed he can borrow money so he can take longer to pay a relocation fee.

So if the owners use such a scenario I am sure they will give Spanos very good terms and a good period of time to pay the money back. Meanwhile his payments would be split amongst the owners who participated as some kind of distribution for their deposit or investment.

There are also a few other options they have as well but none would call for a cash give away.

Roger Goodell opened this Pandora's box with his quest to bring football bring to Los Angeles. One that I'm openly pleased with. But I do not think he ever envisioned the possibility of losing the Oakland & San Diego markets in the process. It would not shock me if the league bent over backwards to help keep them in San Diego. The league grants only so much from the league coffers towards stadiums. Meaning, the owners will need to go against the bylaws and/or change them to accommodate the Chargers. That, in itself, will be hard to explain to the media and fans. As it would appear to most, that the league is doing everything possible to maintain those two California markets, while basically offering no extra help whatsoever when it came to St. Louis. Litigation, I don't see. But this would surely be yet another black mark on goodell's abysmal career as commish.

It's a weird situation, particularly in Oakland.

We just saw a 3 way fight for the opportunity to build a privately funded stadium in L.A.

So it's pretty hard to tell Oakland they need to cough up a bunch of cash to be an NFL city.

San Diego is a little different since it's a much smaller market and if two teams end up in L.A., that hurts SD as a market.

Lots of ways this could shake out, not sure i even have an opinion on what's most likely at this point...

What was the vote in San Diego, like 42%?
