The 49ers might have to pay significantly more than expected to host the World Cup games at Levis.

State of California pulled some money and Santa Clara ordinance prohibits the city from doing anything.

Elvis wrote:Bengals staying put:

The University of Cincinnati is really trying to up their football program with a fancy new training facility plus upgrades to their on-campus stadium. So maybe that's why the Bengals aren't going to push the issue and will just stay.

Funny thing is though is that Cincinnati's lease with the Bengals is actually worse than St. Louis Dome lease with the Rams. (If possible.)

I know everyone ripped on St. Louis for the dumb "top 25%" clause. But the way the lease is written in Cincinnati the Bengals could make whatever upgrades they want to their stadium and then just send the bill to the city. And there's not cap or limits.

It's an interesting dynamic. The NFL is a multi billion dollar business, why on earth should tax payers pay for anything?

OTOH, there are more cities that would like an NFL team then there are teams. So supply and demand comes into play...

It's easy to scare politicians.

"Do you want to be Oakland? Do you want to be St. Louis? Do you want to be San Diego? Give us taxpayer money or else we'll take your precious NFL team away."

The problem is there are no threat cities any more. Not at the prices there are for NFL stadiums. But nobody realizes that.

The CONCACAF Gold Cup at the Vikings stadium/US Bank Field is weird. To accommodate a FIFA regulation pitch the seats are pushed back. People sitting in the first row on the sides are like 20 feet in the air.

They’ve also got grass indoors.

So I guess they won't be rushing the field. Not without ladders, anyway.

Reminds me of the videos/film of the Reds, Phillies and Pirates 1970s/80s wins at those old cookie cutter stadiums and people dropping 20+ feet to the field from the outfield sections.

But it will be interesting to see World Cup games at SoFi and other NFL stadiums that haven't had grass and/or full FIFA width pitches in them before.
