In the olden days of the Tampa 2 defense, the middle linebacker had to be able to drop quickly into coverage on pass plays and be good at it, think that's one of the things they're looking at Paul for.

Just came across this vid,

He compares himself to Dre Greenlaw.

If that is the case, then we got a steal for a 5th round pick.

ILB/Chris "Pooh" Paul Jr: 6-1, 222lbs, 40/4.63

ILB/Dre Greenlaw: 6-0, 230, 40/4.73

We've needed a quality ILB for some time. I hope this guy is it. Not sure about Speights or Landman.

And the Rams don't like to invest resources into the position so if this guy is good, and a 5th round pick, well that's pretty much perfect...

Not sure about Speights? Really. That dude is going to be a monster. And Paul will as well me thinks. Landman can also play. The ILB room has been upgraded overall with better, more athletic, more instinctive football players. They just need reps. I think they will be a bright spot on the D. It might take a little while before they are really dialed in. But that’s ok. The Rams can handle those growing pains.

@Elvis

2 UDFAs and a 5th round pick. Yeah, that would be extremely economical if they were average. If they are a strength? Wow!

And I forgot about Dolac, UDFA. He’s got a real shot at the 53. Imo, Reeder is on the bubble as we have a vet in Landman. At worst, Dolac makes the PS.

I would not surprised or concerned if Speights and Landman were the only ILBs with NFL experience. Ya, risky. But, Shula really knows what he is doing at that position and they simply aren’t a major part of the D from a multiple responsibility standpoint as compared to the front and the secondary. They just have to be able to handle the speed and power of NFL players and the complexity of NFL offenses as far as diagnosing/read and react.
