Good stuff from Breer......

There’s no question the Los Angeles Rams are excited about the six players they left the 2025 NFL Draft with, led by second-round tight end Terrance Ferguson. And though they traded back from No. 26 to 46, they almost went the complete opposite direction in Round 1.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported Monday that the Rams “did sniff around on trading into the top 10 with a focus on getting another offensive weapon.” It was previously reported that the Rams were eyeing Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan and Breer reports they called the Panthers about moving up to No. 8 before Carolina took the talented wideout.

So Carolina wound up resisting trade overtures from teams such as the Niners and Rams, not wanting to get cute and risk losing him.

Here’s more of what Breer wrote about the Rams’ interest in McMillan, and likely the two tight ends, Tyler Warren and Colston Loveland.

The Rams’ bet in this year’s draft is on their own evaluations. As we mentioned above, Los Angeles did sniff around on trading into the top 10 with a focus on getting another offensive weapon—if they got to No. 8, McMillan, and the top two tight ends, Tyler Warren and Colston Loveland, would’ve been there. And just because they didn’t pull off that move up doesn’t mean they weren’t able to accomplish what they were aiming to do.

Les Snead confirmed after Day 1 of the draft that the Rams did explore trading up, but he didn’t reveal who they were targeting or how high they were trying to go. It turns out they were trying to move way up the board, attempting to jump a whopping 18 spots.

A move of that size likely would’ve cost them at least a 2026 first-round pick, but the Panthers turned them down. And rather than losing their first-rounder next year, the Rams wound up adding one in their trade with the Atlanta Falcons for the 26th overall pick.

Interestingly, Breer notes that he doesn’t believe any of the skill players that went between picks 26 and 46 would’ve been higher on the Rams’ board than Ferguson – except for maybe TreVeyon Henderson, who went 38th to the Patriots.

The interesting thing, though, is that only five skill guys (wide receivers Jayden Higgins and Luther Burden III, RBs TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins, TE Mason Taylor) went between 26 and 46. And I’m not sure the Rams would have valued any of them, save for probably Henderson, over Oregon tight end Terrance Ferguson, whom they plucked with the second-rounder they landed from Atlanta.

The Rams were big fans of Ferguson and reportedly even considered taking him at No. 26 before moving down, but it would’ve been fascinating to see if they would’ve taken Henderson over him with their first pick had the Ohio State running back been available.

Los Angles Rams

The Rams’ bet in this year’s draft is on their own evaluations. As we mentioned above, Los Angeles did sniff around on trading into the top 10 with a focus on getting another offensive weapon—if they got to No. 8, McMillan, and the top two tight ends, Tyler Warren and Colston Loveland, would’ve been there. And just because they didn’t pull off that move up doesn’t mean they weren’t able to accomplish what they were aiming to do.

They just went about it in a wildly different way.

Instead of going up for McMillan, Ohio State receiver Emeka Egbuka and North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton (all of whom may have, in certain scenarios, slipped to them), the Rams dealt down. The haul they got from the Atlanta Falcons, who were coming up for James Pearce Jr., speaks for itself. To move down 20 spots, and turn a third-rounder into a seventh, they picked up a 2026 first-round pick.

Here's the other thing—the Rams have been looking for this kind of player for a few years now. Two years ago, without a first-round pick, they looked at trading back into the bottom of the first round for Utah TE Dalton Kincaid, who’s becoming a difference-maker now for the Buffalo Bills. Then, last year, they aggressively pursued a trade up in the first round for Brock Bowers, who became a star almost right away with the Raiders.

Ferguson is the same sort of ultra-athletic move tight end, if not quite the level of prospect that Bowers and Kincaid were coming out. So the blueprint’s been drawn up for Ferguson for a couple of years now, and the Rams finally get to unfurl those plans.

It should be fun to see what comes next.

A nice biproduct of trading up.

So it appears we are not the only team to come out of this years draft with 2 #1's for next year. The Browns also have 2 Firsts. Some very interesting rumors floating around out there.

So, maybe Arch can pull an Eli move,
If the Browns has a step up on the Rams to draft him first,
then ask to be traded to the RAMs or he sits out!!! :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

The way this roster is currently built there at this time, there doesn't seem to be a pressing need to play any of these guys as starters.

Ferguson probably sees limited duty in a rotational role to get a real look at where he needs to focus in his development. Blocking is all about technique and willingness. Ferguson has the willingness, he only needs coaching up with the technique which he will receive a ton of this year. I don't see a problem with him as the starter in 2026.

Hunter is very similar in that respect. To be a 3 down starter he needs to learn how to pass block. Again as with Ferguson it's about coaching and technique and given a year as a backup rotational player, I see him being ready to start next year.

The same can be said about Hamilton. I see him in rotation with Ford as he makes the transition to a starter. With Ford the Rams have him for two years. I see Hamilton being the starter in 2027 with a rookie or second year player along with him at NT.

With Stewart, I see him getting significant time in Hoecht's former role unless the Rams are confident that Brennan Jackson can fill it. I wouldn't be surprised if Jackson and Stewart share the rotation.

Paul' playing time will depend upon how he looks in TC. If the Rams keep Reeder like I think they might, Pauls snaps are likely to be limited spot duty as he develops. Mumpfield is in that same category. There is no clear need at WR for him to play significant snaps this coming season. I see them taking the Whittington type of developmental route with him. This year.

How well Adam's plays this year will determine whether he stays through the projected 2 years of his active contract. I think 2027 is when we see both Whittington and Mumfield as being big parts of this passing offense. I think Whittington takes Atwell's role as the deep threat and plays X WR in 2026 in that role as deep threat. I think Atwell will play that deep threat out of Y and Z because of his size. Once Adams is gone the WRs project as Whittington X, and Nacua and Mumpfield playing Z and Y.

So I see this year's rookie class being geared to having their biggest impact in 2026 and 2027 with all of them getting some rotational snaps depending upon how it goes with the starters in front of them but with Ferguson, Hunter and Hamilton getting the most snaps. Hamilton is likely to get the most of all the rookies in rotational snaps.
