The Rams made too many mistakes. That will happen to a young team. This team is built to play in domes and good weather. The Eagles are built to play in bad weather outside. We are going to see a change in this team both offensively and defensively. I think the changes will look subtle but they will be significant. This offense has been tailored to fit the skillset of Stafford. Which is all well and good except he isn't the same player he was in 2021.What am I alluding to? When it's a pass play the defense simply plays pass defense because the QB poses no threat beyond his ability to pass. So you pressure him with no overriding concern for him to break contain and run. In other words it's why this offense breaks down in the red zone. If I can see it then every damn DC can see it. Williams is a good move the chains RB but he poses no threat beyond that and again they know it. The concept of a ball control offense is correct and I agree totally. But if the RB and QB pose no threat beyond that then it makes defending the offense easier. Look at who the Rams defense has problems with. QBs that pose a threat to run, and RBs that can break a ball control oriented run into a big gainer. It changes the way the defense must defend. They simply can't pin their ears back and rush the QB on pass plays. When they have a relatively immobile QB like Darnold, we saw the results. This is why McVay changed his passing offense. This isn't the same offense as it was in 2021. Now it's intermediate passing which is higher percentage but the WRs aren't like Cooks and Atwell are they. They are big and relatively fast. They will break that initial contact and it's YAC oriented. Hence Robinson, Nacua and Whittington as their starters. The deep strikes are intermittent and only there if there is a mismatch in the secondary. This was a score from anywhere on the field with Akers and Cooks and Woods. But it exposed the defense by scoring too quickly. The offensive emphasis will stay the same, i.e. ball control, move the chains. But the threat level must be improved. A mobile QB and a RB who if he can break it like Williams sometimes has but because he lacks the break away speed he can't score. The Rams get in into the red zone but settle for FGs. Why? Because the QB offers no threat beyond his arm. It's why Corum may never be the #1 RB. It's why I see them drafting a QB who can run, not an RPO offensive type but a pocket passer who has legs like Ward or Leonard. I can see them drafting a RB on the second day with good field vision to make those between the tackles runs and the agility to take advantage of holes created. But who has probably 4.4 speed to take it the distance if he breaks open. It may not seem like much but it doubles the threat level for the defense and forces them to play differently. On defense they need a NT who can shed blocks and tackle and a true RB thumper at ILB. The ILB must have size and speed, no more undersized short armed guys. Two guys will make all the difference in this defense. It isn't Shula's scheme it's the fact they don't have those two guys. Get those 4 guys and this team will be really hard to beat no matter who they play and where. 1 by /zn/ 4 weeks 13 hours ago Total posts: 6902 Joined: Jun 28 2015 Maine Hall of Fame Super Bowl LIX POST #38 ramman2999 liked this post ramman2999 wrote:Literally close to winning this Super Bowl. In 2022 some NFL fans and even national analysts were trying to say Stafford wasn't playing well or the Rams were sick with super bowl hangover. Guys like me kept saying, look at the OL injuries. There always seems to be someone who can't hear that. Though to be fair it wasn't just the Eagles pass rush, the Chiefs could not "crack the code" of the Eagles secondary either. On the plus side for the Rams, the problem in the Eagles/Rams playoff game was the run defense. Otherwise the Rams OL held up against the Eagles pass rush–for the most part anyway–and the Rams pass rush got to the Eagles. No one besides the Rams got 7 sacks on them all year (though Tampa came close blitzing). In fact no one has done that to Hurts in his entire career as an Eagles starter. 1 by ramman2999 3 weeks 5 days ago Total posts: 854 Joined: Nov 23 2022 LA Coliseum Veteran Super Bowl LIX POST #39 Very smart take. Why did the Rams offense look so great and the Chiefs looked like shit??? Why did Stafford look so better than Mahomes??? I mean worthy Shredded them but they wouldnt throw him the ball. That was the mismatch against Cooper Dejuan he had a great pick. But Chiefs let him off the hook. They were targeting Hopkins too much who is old and needs to retire. He cant seperate on routes anymore. He cant get open. Mahomes kept going to him and he was dropping throws. But When you look at this please yall give Stafford credit. The guy is a phenomenal Quarterback. His ability to read defense with his arm is incredible. He shreedded them down the field with Nacua and Robinson and kupp. If that great defensive line doesn’t make the gotta have it play and get the sack. I 100% believe Stafford throws a touchdown to either Higbee Kupp Robinson or Nacua. My best bet probably Nacua on a fade route. Or Robinson on a slant. He was cooking them. Watch the tape. And our defensive tackle Arron Donald would make gotta have it sacks like that. But we got one from Kolbie Turner just came up short. Every team will try to draft a running back early to get their Saqouon watch the Raiders draft Ashton Genty. The Chiefs need Cooper Kupp. They should also invest in Ronnie Stanley. How Dumb are the Giants?????? But Stafford yeah I put him in the class of Mahomes. Just watched the best defense since the Ravens. And between Jayden Daniels Jorden Love Patrick Mahomes and Matthew Stafford I think Matthew Stafford played the best against them. That says something about our superstar Quarterback. Phenomenal Take!!!!! We were actually respectable against their front 4 and gave our Quarterback time to throw the ball. Moved the ball routinely at them. I think the Chiefs just got outplayed on the offensive line. Jawan Taylor and Joe Tunney were horrible. When you just let Donovan Smith walk away for nothing you gotta pay for it.And look what it reduced Mahomes to. I've been on this kick for years. If your OL falls apart like due to injuries, or if it is just plain outmatched, even the best qbs can struggle. And the 49ers suck!!!! Yall couldn’t beat this chump team. Dumb ass Shanahan see what happens when you run the ball???? Im watching the super bowl and Patrick Mahomes looked like Kyler Murray. by ramman2999 3 weeks 5 days ago Total posts: 854 Joined: Nov 23 2022 LA Coliseum Veteran Super Bowl LIX POST #40 /zn/ wrote:And look what it reduced Mahomes to.
