You doubt that the fifth year option is very valuable for the most expensive position in the NFL? Ask the Niners who had to negotiate with Purdy after just a bit over 2 years of his playing only one of which would validate that $55M salary. The Rams can draft a QB in the first round and afford to sit him for a year and still control his rights for another 4 years. If the Rams can trade up and grab Ward, he can start as a rookie and sign a vet for #2QB. But I don't think McVay wants to play a rookie because his offense is predicated on a Vet who can read and work his progressions quickly. A big part of working through progressions is film study which is different at the NFL level if done at all in college. That is where having a solid bridge vet QB is a huge advantage.Again I simply don't see the value in paying Stafford $40-$50M for one year. They will need the carryover cap to begin to extend key players. Jimmy will be the best free agent QB if they allow him to hit the market. Common sense to me is to get the best deal they can for Stafford and return to F'em picks for one year to grab their next franchise QB1 to start in 2026 using Jim as a bridge starter and mentor. He already knows the offense and is well liked in the locker room. They can sign Jim to a 2 year deal with the second year as a contingency or trade year.
