With Stafford expected to play in 2025 I still expect the Rams to take a QB. That said, I think there are perhaps 3 QBs that aren't expected to go in the first round that they might be looking at. So IMO this might be a perfect draft to trade back.

Just looking at the draft what if they worked out a trade back with NE as an example. NE isn't looking at a QB but needs a lot of help and they are an AFC team. For the Rams #26 they could get NE's second and third round picks. Right now NE has the 6th pick in the second round, and the 5th pick in the 3rd round. That trade will give the Rams 4 day two picks. Since their priority targets would seem to be QB, OT, ILB, and TE. Les can fill all 4 positions with good players on the second day.

The order they pick the positions will be determined by how the draft develops. But most certainly, McCord, Rourke and Leonard will be on the board during the second day. They all have their strengths and weaknesses but all three project as second year starters with good coaching and in terms of scheme fit all three would seem to be good fits, especially with Stafford mentoring whom ever they pick.

Stafford and Kupp watch a lot of film together. Can you imagine the advantage of having the rookie QB to see how both a QB and WR would see a particular play? With Stafford returning I think they will renegotiate Kupp's contract perhaps making it more of an incentive based using availability and production. I simply don't see McVay separating Stafford and Kupp.

That's a huge advantage if the Rams have multiple choices in QB draft picks outside of the first round. If they are targeting a player like one of those 3 then Stafford's extension will probably be one year. If there is a second year it will be for spreading the cap and giving the Rams an option year in the same way this year is an option year.

The way the Rams draft I don't see a difference between a low first round and a high second round pick.

I agree that a trade back is an option the Rams might consider, but I don't think it has anything to do with Stafford. Rather, I think it may have more to do with Alaric Jackson.

If AJax is retained, the Rams don't have any glaring need position that must be addressed early. Instead, they can go with the best player available at any of a number of areas (including, but not necessarily limited to, WR, TE, DT, ILB, CB).

If AJax leaves, and the Rams don't sign a starting LT in FA (Ronnie Stanley, for example), then I'd probably look at the LT pool and determine whether a starting LT can be obtained at No. 26 before I'd consider moving back.

I dont think glaring need if we sign Alaric, but we still need a replacement for Havs or a more shutdown CB or a real weapon at TE. It will be interesting to see how the Rams play it.

Right now, I'd rank our priority needs as follows:

AJax Leaves
1. OT (LT)
2. CB
3. WR/TE
4. ILB
5. DT/NT

AJax Stays
1. CB
2. WR/TE
3. ILB
4. OT (LT or RT)
5. DT/NT

Oh yeah this is going to be an interesting draft. We will get a hint by Stafford's contract. If it's basically a one year deal by structure then they probably will draft a QB and have him learn behind Matt and be #2QB.

If it's a 3 year deal with 2 being starting years then they probably will put off the QB question until next year's draft or QB FA listing. That said they have been very proactive the last two years I see no indication of them changing back to a hired gun QB. I think Stan would rather they build via the draft including the QB simply because of the cost.

I'd like us to really look at the best "retread" option. This is the perfect place for a young and unproven QB to sit and learn behind a master like Matthew and the genius of Sean.
As mentioned before I think Zac Wilson is more of a pocket passer, but does scramble well on his feet. Like Baker Mayfield was, he is immature and probably more humble after his debacle with the jets. He is a FA and it would cost us nothing, and could provide us with depth.
I do NOT think Jimmy G will be here in 25 with all of the teams looking for QB help.
