Well Josh Allen ran 11 times for 39 yards yesterday. Including getting stuffed on 3rd and goal at the 1, stuffed on 3rd and 1 at the end of the 3rd quarter (he did get the 4th down), and stuffed on 4th and 1 later that same drive. Meanwhile James Cook got 3 goal-to-go carries and scored twice. His line was 13 carries for 85 yards. Just saying...

Your definitely giving up some offensive options. As you know, it just sucks for a defense when you have a QB that evade and either run it or pass successfully.

Watch Mahomes, how often does he make a pass from a clean pocket?... not often. He almost always moves off his spot, not always a good thing but he often makes plays... like Allen, Lamar etc just an added a weapon. I think it has become more of a need as DL's continue to get after the passer so quickly.

Heres why the Chiefs do what they do.

Why I call Patrick Mahomes Michael Jordan.

Usually when you have a defense. You wanna take away an element of the game.

With Brady you always had to have a front because hes a statue and can’t run. Same with Stafford I see him as a Peyton Manning. He can carve you up read a defense. No mobility.

Mahomes if you say okay well give you a zone. We’re gonna take away Kelce. What exactly the 49ers and Steve Wilkes did to him.

He says okay now im gonna be Steve Young Michael Vick Lamar Jackson and just run all over you. And Nobody can do that. Lamar Jackson doesn’t have the pocket presence or poise that Patrick Mahomes has but he has two MVPs thats why I laughed when Patrick Mahomes wasn’t a pro bowler. He just wins Super Bowls. He saves his legs for the playoffs.

So now you’re like oh shit he’s running we gotta come up put a spy in their and he goes okay now im throwing over the middle with Kelce or Hollywood Brown or Juju Smith Shuester. That’s the sign of a great Quarterback. That’s the sign of a franchise Quarterback. That’s the sign of the best Quarterback ever. Just dont say I have to get a dual threat Quarterback because of Patrick Mahomes. Youll never Have Patrick Mahomes. Justin Herbert isnt Patrick Mahomes. But get one because it will help you win. Like Will Howard.

It's clear that McVay came to this conclusion a year ago. He tried to run plays that required mobility with Stafford and they failed. His frustration is clear. He knows what I've been pointing out for a long ass time, that the reason the Rams are pathetic in the red zone is because their QB poses no threat to run. Look at what their record would be if they had a QB that was a true dual threat in the red zone. He doesn't have to be Hurts or Mahomes he just needs to be a threat inside the red zone 10 yard line.

That's why I differentiate between dual threat and mobile. The Rams need a QB who isn't a sitting duck in the pocket. They need a QB1 that can move enough to extend plays or score via his legs inside the 5 yard red zone. The Rams are looking at paying almost $50M to a QB who can't do any of that. Both Jimmy and even Carson Wentz are mobile enough to do what Stafford can't.

It's why I've been saying they are a year behind the QB curve. They should have been preparing for this season in 2023, or at least via the draft in 2024. They squandered the time with Stetson Bennett who is a JAG level QB.

They are preparing to do it again this coming year if they roll out Stafford for a farewell tour. I appreciate what Stafford has brought to LA, but you have to intentionally ignore the warning signs so as not to see them.

I hope we hear something tomorrow regarding Stafford's decision. If they don't the Rams should make the decision for him and move on. People thought it was the end of the Rams when AD retired but look at how that turned out. I will say it again only this time in regards to Stafford. You don't have to replace the man. You replace or exceed the production. Verse and Fiske have replaced AD's production and have complicated the threat to the offense by giving them two players to focus on. Then if they sleep on Young and Turner that's a huge mistake.

With the QB they can replace the passing production, and in doing so increase the level of threat the QB position poses for the defense. The Donald lesson is applicable.

You bring this up all the time. Do you understand that the Rams have already paid Stafford $27M of the $50M for this year and nearly $23M that is applied to 2026? It's in his pocket already.

Do you understand that it costs the Rams $50M in dead cap (see above) to not have Stafford on the team -- whether over 1 year or 2?

Do we need a mobile QB to contend and win it all? Is the pocket QB going by way of the telephone booth and VCR?

Here's what I know.

Stafford, our immobile QB is 5-2 in the postseason (read: vs. playoff teams).

He's beaten Kyler Murray (mobile), Tom Brady (GOAT; statue), Jimmy G (semi-mobile), Joe Burrow (semi-mobile) and Sam Darnold (mobile). He's lost to Goff (statue) and Hurts (mobile).

And he's done this defeating some pretty good DCs, who know how to get after a "statue" QB including Vance Joseph, Todd Bowles, DeMeco Ryans, Lou Anarumo and Brian Flores. He's lost to Aaron Glenn and Vic Fangio.

But I guess it could be true. You can't beat mobile QBs or crafty DCs who know how to get after a statue QB welded to the pocket.

We're fucked with Stafford!!

Are you serious?

Stafford is our best option for 2025. It’s not a close call.

+14 yd line, 1:06 to go, Higbee open for the 1st down, possible TD. Could a mobile QB have escaped the blown blocking assignment and Carter’s free run in the A Gap? Maybe. I’ll take Stafford in that situation every time. Make the block you’re supposed to make and our ultra accurate QB likely wins the game. As he has done many times before. Yes, I want a mobile QB who can run if he has to. But he better have a very strong arm, excellent pocket awareness/poise, and be deadly accurate or the rest of it won’t matter. Ask any of the running QBs who are now booking their vacations.

And..who is the is ultra mobile QB that will be guiding the Rams in 2025 with a supporting roster playoff tested and ready for a deeper post season run? He ain’t a FA vet. Is he a late first round rookie? Who is this guy the Rams MUST have???

The Rams will redo both Stafford’s and hopefully Kupp’s current contract. They will use the draft, UDFAs, and select vet FAs to upgrade at the positions they consider in need: Corner, ILB, OT depth, interior DL, TE, WR depth/speed, RB depth/speed. And, barring injuries, this team will be in the 10+ win range and back in the post season in 2025.

Rams win the SB. Kupp, Staff, Havs, Higs retire. The Rams suck Balls in 2026, get a high draft pick and land their mobile QB of the future.

One caveat - if they can swing a trade for Hendon Hooker - I’d do that in a heartbeat if the price is right. And I would still keep Stafford for another year.

Tom Brady and Tampa won it all in 2020, Rams and Stafford in 2021 so it's hardly a must.

When the Stafford era is over, we'll see which way the Rams go...
