I know this is being talked about in other threads but today Kupp said he's definitely playing football next year but he's not sure where that will be, wants it to be with the Rams.

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/607634 ... pp-future/

“Who knows what is going to happen? A lot of stuff is out of my control. We’ll see (what) it’s going to be. There was obviously stuff that was going on early in the season and we’ll see. I don’t have any clarity on what that’s gonna look like. Obviously would love to be in L.A. but I don’t know what that is gonna look like.”

...

“There’s no doubt in my mind I want to play football. I feel like I’ve got a lot of good football left in me. I definitely will be playing — I will be playing football next year. That much I know.”

As I said in another thread, I think they'll work it out.

Dead cap number ($22M) from releasing him is definitely a factor, but that alone won't be enough to keep him. If, as I hope/expect, he's willing to be flexible, though, I think they can work things out so that he can stay on with us.

Both sides should find a way to keep Kupp. Kupp seems intelligent enough to read the room, he is a 3rd WR at this point in his career and should expect a salary commensurate with that. Unfortunately NFL “contracts” are a one-way proposition, if you out-perform it, you are locked in, if you under perform, you are cut and hopefully negotiated enough signing and roster bonus money early in a contract.

Kupp seems to me to be a future coach. Perhaps the Rams and he can work something out to stay with the team while he finishes his playing career and “wink wink” you will becoming part of the staff after you hang up the cleats. We will call it deferred compensation
