But it's an interesting breakdown of something a lot of teams are moving towards. It has an element of RPO, but it also simplifies the QB's reads, and stresses the defense. The problem is, and why the Rams don't use it, is that it is far less effective if you don't have a QB that can run. The QB doesn't have to run for big yardage, but in a 3rd and medium (like 5 yds) it is very effective. We've seen it used against the Ram D repeatedly and it's hard to stop. It also can expand the threat level inside the red zone 5 yard line. We have seen McVay try to use it with Stafford and it doesn't work because he's a very poor runner. This is why IMO if the Rams want to stay ahead of the curve offensively, they need a more versatile QB1. When they signed Stafford the offense was primarily about setting up the deep strike. But now it's evolved into a ball-control offense featuring short to intermediate passing and looking for YAC to get big plays. With WRs like Kupp, Nacua, and Whittington it works well. That is why Atwell is no longer a scheme fit in LA. This is why incorporating more of these concepts makes far more quarterbacks compatible with the offensive scheme. Whether it's with Darnold, Jimmy G, or a rookie like Riley Leonard, the point I'm making is that it's clear Sean wants to do more with the offense, but he's limited by Stafford's lack of athleticism. The whole team is coming together quickly, and this coming draft will probably fill the remaining roster holes. The only exception is at quarterback. IMO Sean has gone as far as he can with the offense with Stafford at QB1. I like Stafford but keeping Sean engaged is more important. The team dodged a bullet when Sean looked like he was going to walk away. If Snead is as sharp as I know he is, then he would probably agree with this writeup. Keeping McVay as long as possible is a far bigger priority than extending Stafford for another year or two at the most. 1 by AvengerRam 3 weeks 2 days ago Total posts: 8799 Joined: Oct 03 2017 Lake Mary, Florida Hall of Fame Re: The evolution of McVay's offense POST #2 actionjack, RamsFan4Life liked this post Really strange timing for this. I wouldn't want any other QB running McVay's offense tomorrow. 2 by Youngblood22 3 weeks 1 day ago Total posts: 46 Joined: Aug 31 2023 LA Coliseum Undrafted Free Agent The evolution of McVay's offense POST #3 actionjack, RamsFan4Life liked this post I think McV has changed his offence to fit the players we have. Stafford isn't a great runner. He is a great pocket passer. I don't agree he's done after this season. Next year is I think. Time to get the next QB to sit behind stafford. 2 by rams74 3 weeks 1 day ago Total posts: 1627 Joined: Nov 19 2015 Glendale, Arizona Pro Bowl The evolution of McVay's offense POST #4 actionjack, RamsFan4Life liked this post AvengerRam wrote:Really strange timing for this.Consider the source. 2 Reply 1 / 1 Display: All posts1 day7 days2 weeks1 month3 months6 months1 year Sort by: AuthorPost timeSubject Sort by: AscendingDescending Jump to: Forum Rams/NFL Other Sports Rams Fans United Q&A's Board Business 4 posts Feb 04 2025
