The wildfires that have ravaged the L.A. area have forced thousands to evacuate their homes. Rams coach Sean McVay and his family were among those who were required to leave.

“Here’s what it’s like,” McVay told reporters on Friday. “As soon as I knew that my wife and little boy were good — you don’t ever want that to happen, but if it did, those things can be replaced. Fortunately, they got those things under control, but as soon as I got off the practice field and because of where they were, I saw them right away. That was all I needed. It felt a lot more real — I don’t want to say that because you don’t want to minimize how important and how many people were affected, but when you can start to see it physically as the smoke rose up yesterday, there was a lot of guys that live in proximity and that hits home in a different way. As soon as I knew Veronica and Jordan were good, I was good as well.”

Through it all, the Rams have a playoff game to prepare for. They left for Arizona today. They face the Vikings at State Farm Stadium on Monday night. McVay explained how the team is balancing the personal situation against the upcoming competition.

“I think you acknowledge the personal stuff first and foremost [and] make sure guys are good,” McVay said. “Once you’re able to address and be aware of that, now let’s focus on what we can control in terms of being totally and completely present, having the right sense of urgency and enjoyment with our preparation. Like I was saying earlier, the biggest thing was as soon as I knew my wife and son were good — you certainly never want that to happen and you empathize with the amount of people that have been affected, but you do realize that the people are the most important thing and all the other stuff is replaceable if worst case scenario came to fruition. Not to fruition, but if it came to life.”

McVay praised the league for doing the right thing by moving the game, and he expressed appreciation to the Cardinals for opening their facilities to the Rams.

If the front 7 can severely limit their ground game and the secondary force Darnold to hold that ball even one more second he's toast.

The Vikings run offense is mediocre but good enough if a defense gets sloppy in assignments and tackling. Take care of business and they aren't any better and perhaps not as good as some the Rams have already faced. It's their passing game that they will lean on to win. Their OL before their injuries was a top ten unit. But I'm not sure if their normal LT is still out. I know their RT has had his issues at times.

The Ram front 7 is better now than when they faced the Vikings before and gave Darnold fits. The Rams have proved they can beat these suckers, they just need to play clean and execute. The Vikings have film of the last game. But I have faith in Shula to put wrinkles in their scheme that will negate any advantage.

Don't get me wrong I like Flores as a DC a lot. I have for years. But like all DCs he can only play to the strengths of his roster. His frequent blitzing is a tell. His front 7 especially their pass rush isn't good enough to stop a passing game without it. Conversely, Shula is more selective in his blitzing because of the strength he has on the DL. They couldn't stop Young, Verse, Turner and Fiske last time. They will shorten up their passing game for the most part. The Ram LBs, will have to come up big in this game to stop the run and the short passing game. Speights, Hummel and Reeder will have to be a big part of this defensive plan.

Witherspoon has been playing lights out as have the safeties. Even Forbes who should play a good number of snaps has a rep for being a ball hawk. Darnold will be playing for his career. He knows if he has a bad game he's on the street in a few weeks. Hopefully it will cause him to press and when he does he will turn the ball over.

Seem to remember hearing this about someone else once upon a time.

Also Braden Fiske's 8.5 sacks say hello. ;)

I could be wrong, but the way I read that, the writer was suggesting that Fiske is a liability against the run. I don't think he was even talking about his effectiveness as a pass rusher at all.

And I don't agree that he is a liability against the run, but I can see how his size might entice an offense to try running at him.

Looks like If the game sells out, crowd could be 50/50.

Was code RAMSWC used to purchase tickets during the two hour presale at the cheaper prices?

If so, it was posted on Reddit in the Vikings forum during the time and lots of them were buying tickets and posting about it. Mainly those in Arizona. They were shocked how low the prices were.
