He was an icon in NFL broadcasting for decades. Not so sure he'd be in the Hall of Fame without his broadcasting resume.I always thought Madden didn't get NEARLY enough credit in his HOF resume for what the Madden video games did to expand NFL interest into a younger generation.I had to look up Vermeil making the Hall of Fame, I don't think you can discount the media connections he made as a broadcaster greasing the skids there. Nor can you discount the revisionist history that went on in the 2000s giving him full credit for SB34. I'll give him first and foremost credit for staying out of Martz's way and keeping the team motivated and focused .. which isn't nothing .. but based on sheer numbers, it's not really a HOF resume. by PARAM 19 hours 11 minutes ago Total posts: 12710 Joined: Jul 15 2015 Just far enough North of Philadelphia Hall of Fame Sean McVay's future POST #12 rams1974 wrote:I always thought Madden didn't get NEARLY enough credit in his HOF resume for what the Madden video games did to expand NFL interest into a younger generation.I had to look up Vermeil making the Hall of Fame, I don't think you can discount the media connections he made as a broadcaster greasing the skids there. Those are the numbers of HOF Head Coach Vince Lombardi. 2 Superbowl wins. .750 pct RS and PS combined.10 years, 103 wins, 32 losses, 7 ties, .759 win pct in the regular season. That is Madden. He was 9-7 in the postseason, Lombardi was 9-1. But Lombardi didn't have to deal with multiple rounds of playoffs. 1 Superbowl win. .739 RS and PS.#3 in regular season win pct is HOF Head Coach George Allen 116-47-5, .712 (12 years). 2-7 in the postseason. No Superbowl wins. .686 RS and PS, which is 3rd behind Lombardi and Madden among coaches with 100 or more career wins (RS & PS).All I can say to anyone who believes Madden doesn't deserve to be there based on coaching alone is "COME ON MAN!!!!"As far as Madden (and the Raiders) in 8 postseasons, he was either beaten by future HOF QBs like Dawson, Unitas, Bradshaw (3 times, 1 on "The Immaculate Reception) and Griese, future HOF Head Coaches Hank Stram, Chuck Noll and Don Shula or by defenses with historic nicknames like "The Steel Curtain", "No Name Defense" and "Orange Crush".In 5 of his 10 seasons as head coach, he had phenomenal records......12-1-1, 12-2, 11-3, 13-1, 11-3. In the other 5 he went, 8-4-2 (twice), 10-3-1, 9-4-1 and 9-7 (his final season). Been following the horns since the Coliseum had a Roman playing there. McVay: 77-49, 2 Superbowls, 1 Lombardi............Doubt at your own peril Reply 2 / 2 1 2 Display: All posts1 day7 days2 weeks1 month3 months6 months1 year Sort by: AuthorPost timeSubject Sort by: AscendingDescending Jump to: Forum Rams/NFL Other Sports Rams Fans United Q&A's Board Business 12 posts Dec 29 2024
