Is it time for Matthew Stafford and Sean Mcvay to give Aaron Donald that phone call Eric Weddle style for this playoff run? We got Verse who is in the
Mold of Von Miller. Why not a shot for a postseason run with this squad?

Not possible. Players on the reserve/retired list like Donald are unable to return after Week 12. The deadline for them to come off the reserve/retired list is the final business day before Week 13. Weddle's contract had expired so he wasn't on that list.

They could release him, but he'd have to clear waivers. You think the 13 other playoff teams would take a pass on claiming him?

It's fun to consider but I'd be very surprised if this was ever on their radar. I think the Rams very much want their young talent to emerge as the new leaders on defense, and bringing in 99 would undercut that. Kobie Turner has impressed me as an emergent leader this year.

Agreed. And not only that, but the comparisons to Eric Weddle are off base. When the 2021 Rams signed Weddle, it's because they were short-handed at safety. They had injuries to both Jordan Fuller and Taylor Rapp. They needed somebody to take snaps at safety.

That's not the case on the D-line in 2024. The D-line is at full strength. If the Rams had somehow signed Aaron Donald before that deadline, it would have been at the expense of a healthy player. And the Rams just wouldn't have done that. And Aaron Donald just wouldn't have done that.

Snead, McVay and AD himself have all said it's not gonna happen, so there's that...

The only way I would’ve wanted it to have happened was to have the Rams bring him back as a full back. Only thing left for him to do in his career is to slam in a TD for the Rams.

Too bad the Rams aren’t good enough for a vanity project like that… yet.
