Kyren Williams had a game to forget last weekend. He fumbled the ball twice and lost one of them on the opening drive in a 37-20 blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. More embarrassing for the young running back, the performance solidified a belief that he has taken a step backward in his development.

However, it is not Williams’ fault as he has had to navigate through a variety of factors, including multiple absences on the offensive line and a blatant overuse by Sean McVay and his coaching staff.

Out of 267 rush attempts by the Rams this season, Williams has accounted for 77 percent of them. When you account for carries strictly by running backs, it jumps to 84 percent. While Blake Corum has 29 carries and Ronnie Rivers has 10, Williams has 207.

Not to mention, his 121 pass-blocking snaps are 41 more than any other running back in the NFL.

Williams’ mistakes result from a combination of frustration and fatigue. He’s been the Rams’ bell cow, but he’s getting run into the ground, resulting in turnovers like what happened on Sunday night.

Sean McVay needs to give Williams a rest, especially when he plays the majority of the passing snaps, too.

Corum and Rivers are more than capable and they will get the job done. Save Kyren Williams before he becomes another case study like Todd Gurley.

I would think it obvious that this is by design. Kyren will not be with us next season, and Corum will become RB1. Which is why they are babying him to keep him as healthy as possible.

Of course I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Just for the OP information,

using a blog writer from RAMs wire,

they have most likely never played any football in college or professional,

if any real football at all. Probably only played from computer gaming.

That being said, RB/Williams is only averaging 18.81 carries per game.

If you ask most RB, they would love to carry between 20 to 25 per game,

As long as they know they have a good OL in front of them.

As of right now, William is averaging 18.81/carry

During 2023 season, in 11 games, he averaged 20.72/carry

He is not being overused.

These Bloggers need to write stories for click bait.

If K Will is let go, the Rams need to get a bigger, very fast change of pace back to Corum. Hell even if K Will stays they should do that.

Well, we have one more year after this season, before he becomes a FA.
With this type of OL we have, I felt the reason why we drafted Corum,
was for that purpose, he is a clone of Williams.
Williams is a patient runner,
he knows how to wait for his blocks to open up the hole for him,
then he just sprints into the hole.

I think for some reason, we have another clone of Williams on the bench,
UDFA Cody Schrader 5'8" 202lbs!
He is not getting any playing time, has be inactive every game so far,
but he is learning from the bench.
Plus, they haven't cut him or put him into the PS for a reason.
Looking at his highlights, he runs the same way as Williams.

I don't think the RAMs care about how big the RB is,
I think they want to get several types of RB clones in the same mold of a Williams RB. IMO

The Rams view RBs as disposable commodities. Use them up and trade them or release them. There is always another good RB in the draft. The Bills come to town with a good RB at 6' tall, over 200 lbs, who timed at 4.42 at the combine, they took in the second round. He just torched the Niners.

Williams has a $77K dead cap number next year, so he won't be back. Corum will be starting next year. They are using him enough to let him gain experience. Corum is faster than Williams but he lacks Kyren's vision. William's talent is to make something out of nothing because of his elusiveness, power and most of all his vision. Corum is a shorter version of Akers in many respects. Will he have the same playmaking ability? Who knows but I'm sure that is why they drafted him.

Looking at the RBs in the McVay era, the Rams prioritize, vision, agility to take advantage of that vision, burst (over long speed) and power. Corum's vision isn't as good as Williams or perhaps he is still learning what to look for. We will know next year.

I was saying to friends back in 2022 that the Rams needed to move to an inside run attack with gap concepts (which duo is) and less outside zone. Once they decided to make the change they went with Williams as their starter because he was a better scheme fit for that run offense.

They have the interior OL now to run it. God did you guys notice the pancake block Limmer had on an inside run? If they ever incorporate a FB this inside run attack could be very dangerous. That key component made the Niner's inside run attack so dangerous.

The Chargers used a FB with Tomlinson to great effect. The FB took the place of a TE as a short pass option when it was playaction.

I chalk it up to an AI that is a family member of Corum's.

Corum has talent, no doubt. And he's getting better.

But he needs to run behind his pads more. And when he does that, he'll get a lot more touches.

I don't disagree on Corum's talent,
But under McVay's system,
it takes time for a rookie to adjust to McVay's whole playbook.
Williams took a year before he was put out on the field to take over the reins.
He had only spot duties in his first year.

Kyren Williams played just 68% of the snaps, his lowest of the season. Previously, he had played at least 79% in every game. Blake Corum played a season-high 32% of the snaps and had eight carries, also tying his season-high. Corum isn’t going to unseat Williams as the top back but he may start to eat into his carries.

Probably right. A shame they aren’t at least considering a home run hitter at the position. Then again, maybe K Will or Corum can take a long one to the house if they get the right look and it’s blocked correctly.
