Saleh had plenty of blue chip talent with the SF defense. He wouldn't have that with the Rams. Two decent edge rushers. A decent interior lineman. Thats pretty much it. Most of the rest are JAGS. We really shouldn't be surprised the defense ranks among the worst defenses with that.

I’m always trying to beat the Niners. With this guy. You get a guy who goes in meetings and says this is how we would beat you. We always knew you guys do this. Don’t have your lineman do that. Or on defense when Shanahan does that it’s always a pass. Just stuff in meetings rooms that coaches say and talk about. He would know sets.

It would be a luxury to have that in the building. This man has worked with the Seahawks and Niners. He just has a ton of information. I’m not talking about him as a head coach. But him as a coordinator he would turn guys around. He’s gonna develop guys to. And we need guys to be developed.

Quentin Lake Durant Verse Fiskw Fisk a Fisk a Fisk Fus Fiske

My fucking auto spell.

But yeah also the guys you bring in from the draft. Who can be a Travis Hunter.

PARAM wrote:IMO, there is no "big" issue. It's injuries on the offense and inexperience on the defense. Hopefully we heal considerably and film study is very productive for the youngsters over the next two weeks. We could put together a run sooner than we did last year and at 1-4, we'll need to quicker. We've been blown out once and IMO, that was the anomaly.

I disagree that the offense is not a big issue. But, I agree it is 100% injuries. So, how do you realistically expect to go on an immediate run when it will be essentially the same offense for them next 3 games with the possible exception of Kupp - and yes he is a huge addition??

It’s going to require more than film study for the new guys. I think it requires some scheme adjustment after deciding who you really want at the positions where injuries have hit hard. We are stuck with this OL for the next 3-4 games. So figure out how to really exploit the run game as that is what this OL seems to do “best”. If Kupp comes back, more short passing attack and intermediate outside the numbers with the guys they have. On D, find the secondary combo you think will work best together and adjust your packages around those coverage players. We are fairly set at DL, OLb and ILB - unless Speights or Hummel is ready and viewed as an upgrade against the Raiders.

I do agree with PA that the D is about youth and inexperience in this “new” system. But, that side of the ball may not be as talented as at least I thought watching in camp.

I realize Kupp will help the passing game but he will also help the run game.

The thing is, it may be a fine line (no pun intended) we're missing. Our run game looked good Sunday and if not for an unfortunate fumble, may have held the day. If we had scored on that drive, we're up 10 with more time to kill on the ground and less risk in the air, which also suffered an unfortunate turnover..

It might be a fine line we're missing and not a chasm.

It might be. If you have a ton of “ifs” you’re probably a losing team. It is frustrating that they can’t finish. I hope the staff can figure out the best way to put in the best position for success players they will choose as “the guys” going forward (until players come back). That likely means some scheme tweaks and play redesigns.

I agree but I think it is a little of both. We arent good enough to make up for mistakes on plays but we are still probably making a few too many to win. So cut down on some of the errors, get Kupp back, run the ball and go win 3 of the next 4. Boom

Kupp has missed more games than he's played and he's our leading WR in receptions (18, tied with Whittington). Tutu leads in yards (281 on 17 rec; 16.5 ypc). You have to go back to 2015 (Britt; 18.9 on 36 rec) to find someone other than Tutu (2022) or VJ (2021) with 16.0+ per catch (min. 18 receptions).
