The reigning Super Bowl champs are adding a future Hall of Famer as they load up for their title defense in 2022. The Los Angeles Rams agreed to terms on a five-year contract with All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner, the team announced Thursday. The deal is worth up to $65 million, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

This signing comes a little over a week after Wagner visited Los Angeles as he continued to search for his new NFL home following his release from the Seattle Seahawks earlier this month. While Wagner ultimately chose to ink this deal with the Rams, cornerback Richard Sherman reports that the Baltimore Ravens made a last-minute push to sign the 31-year-old, but to no avail.

Seattle elected to release Wagner back on March 9 to help free up cap space, which put an end to his decade-long tenure with the franchise after originally coming into the league as a second-round pick in 2012. During his legendary run with the organization, Wagner became one of the best linebackers of his generation and earned six first-team All-Pro selections. Last season, Wagner totaled a career-high 170 tackles to go along with five pass breakups, a sack, and a forced fumble, so he is still playing at a high level.

Now, Wagner will stick in the NFC West and play his former team twice a year.

Of course, this is quite the get for Los Angeles as it looks to become the first team since the 2003-04 New England Patriots to win back-to-back Super Bowls. Last year, the Rams ranked as a top-five defense in the NFL in DVOA, and the addition of Wagner should help them maintain that standing this coming season. While Wagner isn't the pass-rushing presence that Von Miller -- who has since signed a free-agent deal with the Buffalo Bills -- was, adding a talent like him to a defense that includes star defensive tackle Aaron Donald and cornerback Jalen Ramsey should continue to make L.A. one of the more feared defenses in the league.

This is just the latest splash signing by the Rams. Earlier in free agency, they added star receiver Allen Robinson into an offense headlined by quarterback Matthew Stafford and wideout Cooper Kupp, and now Wagner is the cherry on top on the defensive side of the ball.

"Future HOFers?" This gives us 3 for sure, maybe more.

NBC

Linebacker Bobby Wagner will be staying in the NFC West.

Wagner has agreed to sign with the Rams after being released by the Seahawks earlier this year. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that it is a five-year, $50 million deal for Wagner. The pact reportedly can be worth up to $65 million, but the full structure of the contract is not known at this point.

The Rams were identified as a possible landing spot for Wagner shortly after his release and he visited the team last week. He also visited with the Ravens before opting to sign with the defending champs.

Wagner will step into a leading role in the Rams defense and the hope is that he’ll join Aaron Donald as a playmaker in the middle of the field. It’s not a spot where the Rams got major production on their way to the Super Bowl LVI title, so Wagner’s arrival will bring a different look to their defense as they try to double up on championships.

Somewhere, I have to believe that Jeff Fisher is smiling. It's a rueful smile, to be sure, but it's a smile.

New to the forum. From Reading some of the articles it looks like a good forum with educated contributors. Anyway, I am so jazzed about Wagner and hope we can find an edge rusher and some defensive back help.

Cheers

QF the twitterverse

Why have a salary cap? Teams just make a joke out of it anyways

Seriously, do these guys have some sort of salary cap cheat code?!

Packers just got eliminated from the playoffs.

Jeez, Wagner behind Donald?

Rams looking to lead the league in dead cap space for the foreseeable future after this offseason of cooking the books.

Runnin it right back.

All the best players want to play in Los Angeles for less money. Rams have an unfair advantage. Great city, great team. Enjoy another title el ciudad de campions

Man… this truly is the darkest timeline for Seahawks fans. Good for Bobby. Bad for us.

Gut wrenching for Seahawk fans.

Rich get richer!

Another good signing by Rams! Donald, Miller in the front is a solid 1-2 team. When we had The Freak he was constantly in the opponents QB face too

Les Snead has got it figured out. No idea how no one else cracked the code yet, but more power to him.

Rams just got even more annoying

Great signing by McSnead!! Now we have future HOFers at all 3 levels of our D!!! :idea2: :arrow2: 8-)

Not that I dislike Taylor SureHandedTackler Rapp or anything.....BUT,

with the great Les Snead signing of Bobby 170TacklesLastYear Wagner, um....channeling some old Infantry acquaintances....

doesn't a 2022 Ram In-The-Box Safetyman become suddenly as useful as taking an accordion on a night patrol?? :?

Maybe the former Washington Husky Taylor Rapp becomes some more TradeCurrency for Mr. Snead??? :?2:

I get how they feel, he is an emotional player for them.

I loved what Deangelo Hall said:

"Man, Bobby Wagner going to the Rams? How can anybody let that happen? They feel they can run it back and now after this move, I'm leaning more towards them running it back than not."
