It always requires a great line. A superior QB, RB and WR's can help offset that a quite bit though. "Battles are won and lost in the trenches" coach McKay say many moons ago. I believe there is still truth in this , , , but a great QB can overcome a lot.
We had our shot at the great QB, but we came up empty.
The team needed a lot so it's understandable they would go bulk, but NOW it's all about a QB and a passing game. TGII as an alternative would be incredible advantage. Need a passing game.

Stranger wrote:given that your other posts have shown that O-line isn't as important as we thought it was, what do you think the Cats have REALLY done to improve over last year?

i don't think it's at all far-fetched to think that cam, a pro bowl talent his first year in the league, has simply continued to improve each season which has culminated in a monster fifth year on the job... his oline? had the cats finished in the bottom 3rd of the league in offensive scoring, with a 6-10 record or so, those who champion the importance of olines would have most certainly pointed to the mishmash of guys he had protecting him this year as the problem, a free agent vet left tackle who graded out as one of the worst last season (no doubt a big reason why his team sent him packing), an undrafted rams reject at guard who has suited up for 7 teams in 4 seasons, another undrafted guard, and a 3rd round right tackle who had 9 nfl starts under his belt headed in the season... imo cam carried that oline, all the way to the bank. re the game is won and lost in the trenches, to me the adage is outdated, i think the game is won and lost in the air, you need passing game, and you need to be able to stop the passing game... in fact as much as i'm thrilled about gurley, his talent will be wasted, all for not, if the rams can't fix their passing game, a stud rb is not nearly enough...
