POLL: People in San Diego would rather keep Comic-Con over Chargers

By John Breech | CBSSports.com

The Chargers aren't the only entity in San Diego that's been threatening to leave recently, the city's biggest event, Comic-Con, has also been threatening to leave town.

However, Comic-Con won't be leaving anytime soon thanks to a two-year extension that was struck on Thursday.

Under terms of the new agreement, Comic-Con will now be held in San Diego through at least 2018. Under the old deal, the comic convention could've left town after 2016.

Comic-Con and the Chargers are two things that the city of San Diego is best known for and because both were threatening to leave, the San Diego Union-Tribune decided to poll its readers to find out which one was more important to the city -- and let's just say that things didn't go well for the Chargers.

With 3,327 votes tallied so far, Union-Tribune readers have overwhelmingly decided that Comic-Con, which is a four-day event held once a year, is more important to San Diego than the Chargers.

Almost 60 percent of voters (1,937) said Comic-Con was more important. The Chargers have received 1,390 votes so far.

Now, the results would probably be different if this poll were taken in February 2016 and the Chargers were getting ready to play in the Super Bowl, but that's not the case and a poll like this could give Chargers ownership another reason to look toward Los Angeles.

Although Comic-Con will be in San Diego until at least 2018, the same can't be said about the Chargers. Team owner Dean Spanos recently met with LA mayor Eric Garcetti and it's still possible that the Chargers could be playing in LA as soon as the 2016 season.

Yup, just another poll designed to be biased and further an agenda.

Gee, I can't imagine the fact that SDCC is this week and football is still months away and has been months since they played has anything to do with the results so far.

no kidding molker. good Lord. and how many of the 3000 + people the poll reached we're Chargers fan? And considering Comic Con doesn't have to build a stadium doesn't quite seem like it's apples to apples. poor little bastard chargers. nobody wants them anywhere. lol

I don't even think it was a scientific poll so it's meaningless, but i think it's pretty clear Spanos and Fabiani aren't really bringing a lot of SD love the Chargers way these days...

Or bringing a lot of Chargers love to San Diego. Poisoned wells are in fashion this off season.

This podcast with John Gennaro and Scott Kaplan is long but a pretty good listen on the Chargers/SD/Fabiani/Etc.

Gennaro out drinking with his buddy comes up with this scenario and seems geeked to see it come to reality, He'd be on record as the guy who came up with the sinning combination and his career would be on the rise.
As I said the FF scenario could put ESK in a corner.
