“We’ve told Nike the one thing that is sacrosanct is the horns,” chief operating officer Kevin Demoff told Lindsay Jones of The Athletic. “The goal is a modern take on our historical jerseys.”

As someone who was partial to the blue and whites, the blue and yellows have won me over this season. They just look SO nice.

Rams honoring their past with throwback uniforms

Posted by Darin Gantt on February 1, 2019, 1:53 PM EST

The Rams are wearing their classic uniforms Sunday in the Super Bowl, bringing back the blue-and-yellows of their first run in Los Angeles.

And though they’ll be getting a new look in 2020, they’ve made it clear one graphic element is off limits to the designers of their re-brand.

“We’ve told Nike the one thing that is sacrosanct is the horns,” chief operating officer Kevin Demoff told Lindsay Jones of The Athletic. “The goal is a modern take on our historical jerseys.”

The horn logo may remain, but otherwise their look will change after next season. But Demoff, who grew up in Los Angeles with a Jim Everett poster on the wall, said it was important to keep the nod to the team’s history.

The gold updates that came between their Super Bowl win over the Titans and their loss to the Patriots two years later were fine in their own right. But the classics have struck a chord with fans and players alike.

“When you see it, it reminds you of the Greatest Show on Turf guys, Eric Dickerson’s teams in L.A. It makes you forget about the couple of years between there. The years that were forgettable,” elder long snapper Jake McQuaide said.

The story details the history of the Rams logo, which was actually the first to adorn a helmet in 1948. And while they might not go that far back, the Rams clearly know the value of nostalgia.

I have to admit the same. I wanted the blue and white so badly last year, but buying an AD throwback between seasons and seeing the team wear them more often Blue and Gold is the obvious choice now.

I'd still love some form of blue and white for throwbacks though.

P.S.: I STILL love the color rush too! They look SOOOOO much better in person.

If i had to guess:

modern version of our current throwbacks as our standard uniforms (but probably modern in a way where lots of people will complain).

Blue and Whites as throwbacks, though i could see them doing an older throw back like to the Van Brocklin days or even the red...

My guess:
Rams go to the dark navy and white uniforms that color match their current helmets. They’ve completed their helmet redesign and will to wait until 2020 to match it with the unis. The reason for the color change is to “strongly encourage” everyone to buys new gear. Kroenke is a businessman and us getting new gear is more change in his pocket. They’ll continue to use the blue/yellows for throwbacks so the get the best of both worlds.

I've always been partial to the 99 Blue and Gold. I like the Blue and Whites too, especially as throwbacks AND provided they use both the white jersey with blue numbers and the blue jersey with white numbers. The yellow jerseys with the blue stripes on the sleeve are also nice and similar to the color rush. Can't wait to see what they rollout.

This is interesting.

The team listened to us and are gonna stick with me throwback blue and gold. I'd be surprised if it was anything else. The mismatch of the helmet is not that big a deal. Whatever they do I sure hope they widen the helmet horns...

My Guess: Whatever they do will leave half of the Ramily unhappy and fuming for YEARS.

the vikes told nike that they're horns were sacrosanct too but went ahead and let nike add a little jazz to them, which fucked them up imo (they went from a clean, wide white horn with a thin yellow accent in front, to a horn with a black outline (which actually made the horn look smaller) and a 3-d effect in the front)... point is, i hope the rams don't let nike touch the design of the horns...

btw this uniform stuff is a funny thing, it's obviously important to a lot of fans, but the reactions and comments can get pretty crazy, there's a long, older rfu thread on the subject (one of several) where a poster wrote (paraphrasing):

stop the complaining about something that hasn't happened yet, stop worrying about uniform changes, i trust the front office completely to deliver great looking new uniforms... the st. louis uniforms with gold horns? i hated those.

ha ha...
