Love him or hate him — and many St. Louisans may choose the latter — Stan Kroenke has single-handedly put Los Angeles into play for the NFL, a market that has stymied the league for years.

That’s why Kroenke came in at No. 15 on a list of the most influential people in sports business, published by the Sports Business Journal.

“His decision to go around the league and announce a development in Inglewood supercharged the process,” the ranking said.

Many prominent figures with roles in the whole “Will the Rams move?” saga were also listed, including Bob Iger, the Walt Disney Co. CEO who last month was named chair of the NFL stadium project in Carson. Iger was listed as the No. 1 most influential person in sports business.

Upcoming Events

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was ranked No. 4.

Three of the six owners on the league’s L.A. Owners Committee were on the list, including New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft (No. 11); Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson (No. 21); and New York Giants owner John Mara (No. 36).

And Jerry Jones, the Dallas Cowboys owner who has been outspoken in favor of Kroenke’s Inglewood, California, stadium project, came in at No. 14.

Also on the list is Don Garber, commissioner of Major League Soccer. Garber, who came in at No. 18, visited St. Louis earlier this year to show support for the local stadium project as well as talk about MLS’ desire to have a team here.

The full list can be read here.

The MLS only desires Sacramento the rest have to prove their worth.
