here's a look at how the rams pff scores stack up to the chargers pff scores, red text = advantage... i guess we should be shaking because the rivers/ekeler combo far outscores the goff/gurley combo, heck i wonder if goff/gurley can even keep up, but more than happy that the rams wr group, oline, corners. safeties, dline and edge rushers all grade out considerably higher than the chargers groups!

and here's a look at what a couple of joints have calculated in terms of the rams chances of winning this sunday, one joint gives the rams a 64% chance, while the other gives the rams a 71% chance:

That first joint is FiveThirtyEight, I presume. They’re worthless.

What we do know is that the Rams are better and Kroenke really wants this game. This is important for more than the record. Rams want to make a statement in LA.

He’s one of the most complete WRs in the NFL, imo.
I’ve said before.. Ekeler & Gordon are the keys to stopping them, to me.

Agree with you.

After this game, I will be rooting for all three rest of season.

I agree and that has me a bit uncomfortable. There is definitely more riding on this than just a W. The Dolt's can't win their personal 'Fight For LA' or it could change the entire LA dynamic for a while. Rams need to punch them in the mouth and send them back to San Diego where they belong..

actually i dig that site a lot, prob is quite a few folks don't get elo algorithms, not just 538's elo's, but the elo's quite a few sites now fancy, now put out... and it's hard to blame these folks, elo results often don't make much sense on the surface because they weigh historical data heavily, often too heavily imo, but it's good stuff, interesting stuff, imo... plus i dig their entire site, which goes far beyond nfl football.

Refocused, NFL Week 3: Los Angeles Rams 35, Los Angeles Chargers 23
By PFF Analysis Team • Sep 24, 2018

Quarterback Jared Goff found success throwing the ball down the field Sunday. On 11 attempts, Goff completed 9 for 187 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

The Rams offensive line continued to dominate....and only allowed pressure on four of Jared Goff’s 38 dropbacks.

------------------------

translation: goff had modest success throwing downfield thanks once again to the rams dominating offensive line, he rarely faced pressure.

then they go on to describe how, conversely, rivers, the hero that he is, the "real qb" that he is, faced pressure whenever throwing in "obvious pass situations", ha ha...

As soon as the Chargers got into obvious passing situations, they were toast with the holes on their offensive line... and quarterback Philip Rivers was given little to no time to orchestrate the offense effectively.

yeah, poor rivers, threw this td with rams defenders hanging all over him... :roll2:

I play tournament chess. I have an USCF rating. So I know all about elo ratings and how they work.

Football isn’t chess. The variables don’t work for elo to be accurate.

seems that you took my post as a slight, not sure why, wasn't singling you out? re elo accuracy and its role in sports analytics, we'll just have to disagree!

PFF grades are funny and "OK" to use in certain situations.

But sometimes you just have to wonder how they get the numbers.
