Holmgren, Martz headline 2016 NFLPA Collegiate All-Star coaches

NFL scouts can only hope that the player rosters for the 2016 NFLPA Collegiate All-Star Bowl contain as much star power as the coaching staffs.

Former NFL head coaches Mike Martz and Mike Holmgren will each lead one side of the rapidly growing all-star game with an impressive list of former NFL players and coaches serving as their assistants, including former Pro Bowlers Priest Holmes, Darrell Green, Jackie Slater and Steve Hutchinson. The entire coaching staff is listed below.

The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl has joined the East West Shrine Game and Senior Bowl as a consistent producer of NFL talent. There were 10 players selected in the 2015 NFL Draft who played in this all-star game a year ago, including former Georgia wide receiver and Combine standout Chris Conley, who was selected 76th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Founded in 2012, the annual game gives prospective NFL players the best opportunity to showcase their talents to potential employers and fans. In 2015, scouts from every NFL club and other professional leagues attended the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl's practices and game.

Nearly 200 NFL Scouts, Player Personnel Staff, GMs and Head Coaches not only watched the live practices and game but also conducted player interviews and reviewed tape. Participants in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl have the unique opportunity to network with and learn from current and former NFL players. These veterans give players first-hand insight on what it takes to win on and off of the field.

The 2016 game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. PT / 6 p.m. ET kickoff on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at StubHub Center on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills. The game will air nationally on ESPN2. In addition, American and National Team practices on January 20 and 21 will be televised live on ESPNU.

OMG, how fun would it be to be on that field with both of these coaching staffs. Wow, what a blast.

Martz and Holmgren did this last year too. I think they both want back into the NFL but that's just a guess. Maybe their pride keeps them from taking whatever job they can get for now and working their way back up? Or, maybe this "event" pays them a nice chunk of change to slap their names on it? I've been working under the presumption that they both do it because of a love of football and interest in coming back. But, they might just be getting a pay day for a few days work.
