Ballpark Village Jamba Juice closes

Dave Peacock, chairman of the local Jamba Juice franchisee group, said Monday that the Jamba Juice in Ballpark Village has closed after doing business in the downtown facility for just more than a year.

Peacock, who is chairman of the investor group called Vitaligent, said the location, which opened in early 2014, served as a pop-up store to familiarize St. Louis consumers with the brand. The location succeeded, Peacock said, because more than six million people visited Ballpark Village during its first two seasons. Sales figures for the Ballpark Village location weren’t immediately available.

Vitaligent, which is the largest Jamba franchisee, representing more than 10 percent of Jamba Juice’s sales, closed on a $25 million deal to buy 73 Jamba Juice stores in California in July.

Vitaligent recently merged with Show Me Smoothie, which in 2013 developed 15 Jamba Juice stores in Missouri and Kansas.

Vitaligent is led by Peacock; Paul Edgerly, managing director of Bain Capital in Boston; and Terry Matlack, co-founder of Tortoise Capital in Kansas City. Other local investors include Dean VandeKamp, a former partner at Ernst & Young who serves as Vitaligent’s CEO; Holton Capital’s Rick Holton; Bob Hermann, Jr.; and Mike and Steve Carr of Carr Textiles, among others.

Ballpark Village was built for about $100 million. Developers, according to bond documents, projected more than $50 million in sales for 2015, with sales of $86.6 million in the development’s 25th year.

Developers have long planned a second phase that would include mixed-use space. Officials said recently they have no new information to share about the second phase.

Ballpark Village is owned by the St. Louis Cardinals and Cordish Cos. The Major League Baseball club had estimated revenue of $283 million in 2014.
