PARAM wrote:What's amazing is looking at those teams who had .700 or better during 154 game seasons. The 1998 Yankees have the most total wins (125). Seattle has the most regular season wins tied with the 1906 Cubs. But the 1906 Cubs have the best winning percentage of all, .747. 80 games over .500 (116-36) and 2-4 in the World Series (118-40). The 98 Yankees have the 4th best win percentage behind those Cubs, the 27 Yankees (.722; 114-44) and the 09 Pirates (.717; 114-45).

Its been pretty rough lately though. Man, 25-24 in last 49. Cant wait for Judge and Sanchez to come back.

Yeah, it's been ugly. Missing Judge and Sanchez (he was missing to a certain degree when he wasn't; although productive in the HR/RBI dept.) have been worse than they led us to believe. On the plus side, Walker has started to hit, Happ and Lynn have been solid pickups. Get Glyber back on track as well as Britton and they'll have something. As it's said every season.....'you don't have to have the best record or be the best team, you just have to get hot at the right time'.

Yeah, catching them for the Division is out of the question. 10 games in the loss column with 40 to play. Even if they finished 24-15, the Yankees would have to go 35-5 just to tie. It would take a 2-10 run soon for Boston (coupled with a 10-2 run for the Yankees) to give NY any chance. Not gonna happen. So absent that, Boston will probably clinch the division sometime during the second or third week of September. That gives the Yankees the opportunity to wait until Judge is fully healed....no need to rush him back......and get Sanchez and Torres back on track.

Hey, nothing is impossible and until its over, who knows. Last year the Dodgers showed that even an incredible team can lose focus and drop some games. Sure 10 games in the loss is fairly insurmountable, but they do play 6 more head to head.

Since they honored the 1998 team this weekend, I think it apropo to make some comparisons to Boston. The Red Sox are 88-36, 124 games into the season. The 98 Yankees were 92-32, 124 games in......and they ended up with 114 wins. O'Neill and Cone were talking about it yesterday and they said as the season wears on, the pressure mounts the closer you get to the record. The 98 Yankees finished 22-16 (6 games over .500) after going 60 games over .500 for the first 124. Will the Red Sox falter somewhat as the season winds down?

The 98 Yankees lost at least 2 in a row 11 times, including at least 3 in a row 4 times and 4 in a row once. The Red Sox have lost at least 2 in a row 9 times, including one 3 game losing streak. They are due for a couple/few 0-3's or 0-4's aren't they? On the other hand, the 98 Yankees won 5 in a row or more 8 times. They had win streaks of 5, 6, 7, 8 (twice), 9 (twice) and 10 games. The Red Sox have won 5 in a row or more 5 times, including 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 game win streaks. Are they due for a couple more?

Either way, it's going to be interesting to see how they finish. And like O'Neill and Cone attested, it don't mean a thing if you don't win it all. "Nobody talks about the 116 win- 2001 Seattle Mariners." Chris Sale went back on the 10 day DL yesterday and some think that might help him stay fresher than normal down the stretch and in the postseason. I fail to see how a shoulder problem can help anyone. Or is it simply a "rest" to keep him fresh as they enjoy a 10 game lead?
