snackdaddy wrote:Well, the injury bug had to happen. Kershaw out 4 to 6 weeks. Fortunately they have a big lead and they're still talented enough to win regular season games without him. But they're not talented enough to get through the post season without him.

Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. If he returns in time to pitch a few games in September he should be well rested for October. The only concern would be if his back is worse than originally thought. I don't think he's seen a back specialist yet. You never know with a back injury.

It can be said that Kershaw doesn't always completely show up for the post season anyway. Still think they need one more ace but yeah, the Dodgers have got the mojo and looks destined to take the pennant and possibly the title.

Well, on the surface after Sonny Gray the pickings seemed a little slim but they get Yu Darvish. Darvish's numbers don't look great this year but don't be deceived. His ERA was a very respectable 3.46 before his last game which was pretty bad. He's top 15 in WHIP. More than a strikeout per inning. Most pundits still consider him a premier pitcher at 30. He immediately becomes their number two.

I agree Kershaw hasn't had post seasons like his regular seasons. But he seemed to break through last post season with some good outings. And he's still the premier pitcher in this league. No reason to think he can't get it done.

Hill is a little scary sometimes when he can't find the strike zone. He's capable of not making it out of the 3rd inning. But he's just as capable of throwing 6 shutout innings. Not a lot of in between with him.

If Kershaw can be Kershaw in the post season and Darvish can provide quality innings, Hill only needs to be good every other game to win a series. And we can't overlook Wood. I expect Maeda to move to the pen for long relief, but he's been pretty good lately.

Yeah, I agree they have to be favored to win it all. But the pressure is all on them. They've been the best team. Anything less than a championship would be a disappointment.

That pitch that Rich Hill took in the throat last night was brutal.

So the Dodgers are 85-34 which puts them on pace for 116 wins.
Now if they weren't so kind as to give the league a head start by "only" winning 35 of 60, and played the whole season at the same pace since, 50-9, they would win 137 games.... Yikes!!
BeerBelly must be looking down from above and enjoying the heck out of this.

Who was the last team to win 116 games, Seattle? It doesn't matter how many of the first 162 games a team wins if they don't win 11 more.

Yeah, thats what I'm thinking. All the pressure will be on them. None of this will mean anything if they don't at least get to the World Series. Anything less would be a disappointing season. Its not like they weren't favored to go deep in the playoffs before all of this started.

Most publications had them playing the Cubs in the NLCS. Now the Nationals are in the mix and they have a solid playoff roster. October won't be easy.

But for now, I'm going to enjoy this magical season. They don't come around very often. 8-)

Wow, now they pick up Curtis Granderson? He's not the player he once was but he'll be more effective than Pederson, who by the way was option to Triple A Oklahoma to make room.

Granderson's BA isn't that good, but he's batting .273 with 17 HR's since May 10. After a terrible start he seems to have settled down and is doing ok. He does offer vet experience and left handed power for the playoffs. I think this just makes them that much better. Its obvious Dodgers management is looking at this as World Series or bust. They felt the moves they made during the offseason would make them a better playoff team than previous years. Its now or never for them.

Thats gotta be a tough pill to swallow for Hill. Coulda had his name in the record books but his high scoring team couldn't eke out a single run. Crazy.
