Rams rookie John Kelly pleads guilty to misdemeanor charge

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Los Angeles Rams sixth-round draft pick John Kelly has pleaded guilty and agreed to pay court costs but will have his misdemeanor drug charge dismissed if he avoids trouble for a year.

Kelly was cited for possession of a Schedule VI substance and University of Tennessee linebacker Will Ignont was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia last fall after Knoxville police found 4.6 grams of marijuana and a glass pipe during a traffic stop.

Tennessee law defines marijuana as a "Schedule VI" drug.

Kelly, a running back from Tennessee, pleaded guilty Tuesday but will have the charge dropped in a year if he avoids trouble in a judicial diversion program.

Ignont's case also will be dismissed if he avoids trouble for a year, performs 24 hours community service and pays court costs.

This arrest was last year. I doubt we'll see it again. Or he will understand what NFL stands for.

NFL= 1 Be More Sneaky, 2 Use the right supplements that causes a reduction effect on the residual chemicals of the weed in your body so they don't get detected by testing. and 3 IF You Get Caught apologize in public and say that you didn't know that that product was in a vitamin supplement that you took.

It’s a good thing he’s coming to California where he can pretty much herb it up as he wants.

Apparently lots of players smoke and it's easy to not get caught unless you're an offender and in the program. They all know when the test is gonna be (unless you're an offender, then you don't).

Whatever it was, it was a year ago and really has no bearing on anything going forward...

Just make sure he stays in California and away from the red states.

The recreational thing has started to roll.. Is Alaska a blue state? Colorado and Nevada are Purple, at best, and have legalized recreational.

The fight's over. And I'm not a user or advocate.

I’m talking about real red states in flyover country like Missouri, Tennessee, Alabama, Kansas etc.

Marijuana laws are too effective of a tool to subjugate people of color.

Since this happened long before he became an NFL player does this mean he's not subject to discipline for it?

I'm almost positive it means he's not going to be subjected to the NFL disciple because of the arrest last year. There's been a number of college players that had legal issues before they entered the NFL and they didn't face any disciple when they entered the NFL. Higbee got in a bar fight a couple of months before the draft and I believe he pled no contest or guilty and he was never disciple by the NFL.
