Compensatory Draft Picks Cancellation Chart

To add clarity to how the compensatory draft pick formula works, this page will contain a list of all Compensatory Free Agents lost and gained by each team, and illustrate which players are paired together for cancellation. Players that are projected to be eligible to earn their former team a compensatory pick are highlighted in their former team’s colors. Please note that this chart does not include potential “net-value” compensatory picks for teams that lose and gain an equal amount of CFAs, nor does it account for compensatory picks that may not be awarded due to falling below the 32-pick limit or exceeding the maximum of four per team.

As of right now, the Rams would receive two 3 rd round comp picks (for Watkins and Tru) and two 7th round comp. picks (for Davis and Carrier).

Sammy Watkins 3 $16,000,000
Trumaine Johnson 3 $15,000,000
Cody Davis 7 $2,500,000
Derek Carrier 7 $1,833,333

If you click the link below, it will show the current projected 2019 comp. picks for all of the teams.

The Rams have not signed a single outside F/A this year with the exception of Sam shields who does not factor into this equation as he was out of football last season. This makes me think that they might almost entirely avoid outside FAs this season. No need to sign DT Hankins or Williams when this draft is deep at DT. While it is not deep in edge rushers, there aren't any worth the contract they will and/get from someone. So, the Rams have to target the good edge rushers early in the draft. WR? The Rams are building from within and using the WR's and TEs to form a complementary set of pass catchers. They can still seek deep WR speed in the mid rounds of the draft. ILB: Again, the draft is where the value is; cheap, developable talent VS expensive and somewhat limited talent on the FA market. And the Rams have on-roster prospects they have developed. O-line doesn't offer much in the way of Fas as most are going to be over priced. So, yet again, they turn to the draft.

They have 9 picks to use/package in order to get a starting, NT and edge rusher, ILB depth/potential starter, WR developmental depth with deep speed, and O-line developmental depth that upgrades what is already there. All other positions are basically accounted for.

Now, if there is a total stud at a position of strength, they still can afford to take him at the potential expense of depth at the aforementioned positions.

Then, in the 2019 draft, they are loaded with picks - (1) 1st, no second (Peter's) potentially (3) 3rds, (1) 4th, (1) 5th and (1) own 6th, (2) 6th-7th rounders (depending on performance-Davis & Carrier). No "own" 7th (O. Tree trade). 9 picks next year, so far.

That's my take.

Am I wrong?

That I do not know. But, if you are correct, then that signing makes a lot of sense - depending on price. The DTs in this draft class are good and its a deep class. That said, the quality there, and at most positions, is in the first 2-3 rounds. The Rams need impact starters at DT and edge at a bare minimum out of this draft, one could even argue ILB. But, they currently have limited capital to get that done (2 picks in the first 3 rounds). So, perhaps a solid contract for Williams takes pressure off the draft as they can then focus on edge, ILB, and OL depth.

Probably looking at a 3rd and a 4th right now if they don't sign anyone crazy.
This is why the trades are so brilliant, they don't affect comp. Also, waiting out the waiver period too, sign a cut player and it wont count.

That's what the chart shows, 2-3s, 2-7s.
