He’s been in Denver , St. Louis and back in Foxborough so he probably knows how it works. Nothing wrong with staying in NE, you have a chance to win every year but he and the organization come off looking like, well, the Patriots.
McVay could’ve blocked LaFleur since it wasn’t really a promotion but he felt like he should pay it forward and let the guy go, even if it hurts his team.
This has been the worst kept secret in the league for weeks, maybe they could’ve found a couple hours to talk about it before the guy was cleaning out his office. Of course, they don’t care what anyone else thinks, it’s the “patriot way” .

In a league where coaches move all the time, if McD was really complaining about uprooting his family, chances are it falls on deaf ears.

I will say this about LaFleur though. I don't know if McVay would have blocked him if it were just a lateral move. But technically it is a promotion, since he adds play-calling to his duties. Some of the LA reporters commented on that:

Not the biggest surprise as it’s a big promotion for Matt calling plays

#Rams policy has been to say no to a lateral move and consent to promotions. In job title this was lateral. In duty it was promotion.

LaFleur will presumably call plays in Tennessee, which amounts to a promotion for the 38 year old.
